Severin also known as The Siphon is the secondary antagonist in season nine of Buffy The Vampire Slayer.
He is a vampire hunter from San Francisco who has the ability to drain the powers of any mystical being he comes into contact with. After spending some time killing and torturing various vampires out of revenge, he joined forces with rouge vampire slayer Simone Doffler, electing to help her take down Buffy Summers, viewing her actions during the Twilight Crisis as responsible for the creation of zompires and consequently his girlfriend Clare's death.
Biography
Backstory
Severin was a young man living in San Francisco and living a fairly normal and happy life with his girlfriend Clare, however Clare had a bizarre obsession with both of them becoming vampires, in spite of Severin being quite apprehensive to the idea. Eventually Clare re-connected with an old school friend named Alessandra who agreed to sire Clare, unfortunately however unbeknownst to anyone involved the source of all magic on earth; The Seed of Wonder was destroyed which had a knock back effect against all magical forces and beings on earth. This meant that when a new vampire was sired they were unable to be possessed by a demon to complete the process as was done previously, meaning they would come back only as mindless beasts, eventually dubbed "zompires" by Xander Harris.
Clare consequently rose from the dead as a zompire and attacked Severin, who found in his attempts to defend himself that he had powers awoken within him thanks to the Seed's destruction, causing him to drain the vampiric energic out of Clare and absorb it into himself, accidentally killing her. A devastated Severin went mad with grief and spent a great deal of time, torturing, draining and murdering various vampires with the eventual end goal of tracking down Alessandra and killing her in vengeance for Clare's death.

Appearance
Severin was a handsome, young Caucasian man of a medium build with blue eyes and thick, tousled brown hair who wore fairly expensive and extravagant looking clothes. As he stole the powers of more and more demons he would take on physical attributes of theirs, this is most notable with Illyria as after draining her he gained a much taller, more muscular build and his hair turned blue.
Trivia
- Severin's physical appearance was modelled after James McAvoy (who has played a number of villains such as Wesley Gibson in Wanted, Bruce Robertson in Filth, The Horde in Split and Glass and David Percival in Atomic Blonde) apparently from X-Men: First Class specifically, although because of the art style he actually looks closer to how James looked in the mid 2000s.
- Severin's backstory bears some similarity to that of Daniel Holtz the main antagonist in season three of Angel, a fellow vampire hunter who after losing a loved one to a vampire was driven to villainy and had plans involved time travel.
