~ Rusty Rose introducing herself to Sonic. |
Rusty Rose is a major character in Sonic Prime.
She is Amy Rose from an alternate universe that Sonic travels to after accidentally breaking the Paradox Prism. In this alternate universe, Amy has been captured by the Chaos Council, and was turned into one of their minions, acting as the group's right-hand.
She is voiced by Shannon Chan-Kent, who also voiced Thorn Rose in the same series.
Appearance
Rusty looks almost exactly like Amy Rose, with the primary difference being that she has had all of her body and part of her face replaced with robot parts. She has a pink head with long quill-like appendages, a group of spiky protuberances on her forehead, and a metallic structure covering one of her eyes. The rest of her body is metallic, with select portions of it painted red.
Her robotic eye also appears to change color depending on who she sides with. While she was still loyal to the Chaos Council, the pupil was red. When she begins helping Sonic and Dread's crew, however, it turns pink. It also turns yellow when she is under the command of Nine.
Biography
Past
In an alternate timeline where Sonic never existed, Amy Rose was seemingly captured and turned into a robot by that timeline's version(s) of Dr. Eggman, the Chaos Council.
Season 1
After Sonic arrived in New Yoke City, the Chaos Council captured him and Nine and they have Sonic testing his abilities. As Sonic was about to be executed, Rebel and Renegade break into their headquarters which Sonic and Nine were saved. However, Nine was able to hack into Rusty's programming and turned her into one of Sonic's allies. After she help them get to the Prism Shard and Sonic was brought into another dimension called the Boscage Maze, Rusty goes back into her original programming by the Chaos Council.
After Sonic returns in the New Yoke City, Rusty turns against him and the Resistance. When the Chaos Council learn the Prism Shards can travel through dimensions and there are many shards in multiple dimensions, Nine is eventually captured and one shard is reclaimed on their hands. Rusty and the Eggforcers went to No Place where they have to confront Sonic and the Angel's Voyage crew and search for the shard before they can. After being defeated, she was later captured.
Season 2
In Second Wind, Rusty is shown tied to a pole after being captured by Dread's Crew. When the Chaos Council return to No Place, she is hopeful that they will rescue her. However, they do not help her at all, with Dr. Deep deeming her obsolete, having fulfilled her purpose. As a result of this, Rusty has a change in heart, and seeks to take revenge on her former masters.
Season 3
She develops a sisterly bond with her counterparts, Black Rose and Thorn Rose. And during her fight against Grim Amy, she comes to the conclusion that her needing Birdie as a power supply was a lie forged by the Chaos Council and sets Birdie free.
After helping out in the battle against Nine, Nine redeems himself, and Rusty, along with all the other counterparts help Sonic and Shadow get back to their world after bidding them farewell.

Trivia
- Several fans have pointed out Rusty's similarities with Metal Sonic from the mainline series, namely in how she is the right-hand of Mr. Doctor Eggman, whilst also being a robotic version of a main character. It has also been pointed out how both Amy and Metal Sonic made their debuts in Sonic CD.
- Rusty is the second version of Amy Rose to be an antagonist, with the first being Rosy the Rascal from the Archie Comics series, and the third being Thorn Rose, also introduced in Sonic Prime.
- As with many villains in the series, Rusty is a dark parallel of her main universe counterpart. In her case, she represents what the normally compassionate Amy Rose would have been if she was devoid of any emotion.
- Amy being turned into a cyborg is similar to Sonic Satam and the Archie Comics series, since both had Dr. Eggman turn organic beings into robots through a process called "Roboticization."
- It's unclear if Rusty Rose was roboticized or if she was turned into a robot through some other method.
