Plunderseeds are the main antagonists of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic the Season 4 episodes "Princess Twilight Sparkle. Part 1" and "Princess Twilight Sparkle. Part 2".
They are semi-sentient chaos magic plants planted by Discord to steal the Tree of Harmony's magic and capture the Alicorn Princesses.
Biography
Past
Season 4
In the episode Princess Twilight Sparkle Part 1, in Canterlot, black vines burst through the floor and grab Princess Celestia's hoof, catching her off guard. The next morning, Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are missing.
The next time the vines appear is in Ponyville. Fluttershy is in her house, wondering why her pets are afraid of something. She opens the door to find black roots crawling out of the Everfree Forest. In Sweet Apple Acres, Applejack, Big McIntosh, Apple Bloom, and Granny Smith try unsuccessfully to get rid of what they think are strange weeds. In the skies above town, Rainbow Dash encounters more black, spiky clouds, and at Carousel Boutique, the roots' light blue magic counters Rarity's and causes damage to the store.
In the episode Princess Twilight Sparkle". Part 2, after witnessing flashbacks to Discord's reign and the sisters' defeat of him, Twilight realizes that something bad has happened to the Tree of Harmony, located deep in the Everfree Forest. Wearing jewelry with elements of harmony, the heroines head into the forest in hopes of saving the tree. However, after a run-in with a huge crocodile, Twilight's friends ask her to go back because they can't afford to lose another princess. Spike goes with her.
Discord makes her feel guilty for leaving her friends in danger, and together with Spike, they return to the forest again. Spike goes ahead to find the other heroines, while Twilight is attacked by crab-shaped flowers that spray sleeping gas. Just as one of them is about to grab Twilight, Applejack appears and lassoes it. The other heroines appear next, effectively tying up the aggressive plants. One of the flowers tries to attack Pinkie Pie, but Twilight destroys it with a magical beam.
The heroines find the Tree of Harmony, blackened and covered in black roots and vines. The friends return the Elements of Harmony to the tree, but the vines try to resist. However, when the elements fall into place, the restored tree emits powerful magic, destroying the "weed" and freeing Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.
At the end of the episode, Discord reveals that he was the one who planted the seeds. They were supposed to steal the power of the Tree of Harmony and capture the princesses a thousand moons ago, but apparently the tree was strong enough to stop them from growing.
Powers and Abilities
As representatives of Chaos Magic, the Plunderseeds were extremely powerful flora. Their unique skills in manipulating Chaos Magic and near-invulnerability to almost any form of Equestrian magic allowed them to easily outmatch the average magical being in Equestria, giving them the edge they needed to easily catch even Celestia and Luna, the most skilled and powerful members of Equestria's ruling forces, off guard and trapped in impenetrable vines. The Plunderseeds demonstrated many impressive skills, such as creating multiple crab-shaped flowers and Plunderseed clouds with unique attacks, a highly unorthodox method of directly interacting with the population of Equestria through Chaos Magic, and having enough intelligence to prevent themselves from getting into dangerous situations. In particular, in their battle with the Mane 6 in Ponyville and the Everfree Forest, the Plunderseeds were able to outmatch each of the Mane 6 members individually for most of their fight. If it weren't for the Plunderseeds' innate weakness to the Elements of Harmony and Friendship Magic, the Chaos Magic plants would likely have been able to kill all of the Mane 6 members by simply outnumbering and outpowering them.
- Limited Intellect: Although the Plunderseeds themselves are floral creatures of Chaos Magic designed to steal the Tree of Harmony's magic and imprison the Alicorn Princesses, they display a high degree of intelligence, as they are well aware of the danger the Elements of Harmony pose to them and will go to great lengths to destroy them and the Mane 6. Plunderseeds can also use group attack tactics to knock out Twilight with sleeping gas, or to counter Rainbow Dash's attacks on themselves by sending Plunderseed clouds at her. They also attempted to restrain Twilight when she attempted to give the Elements of Harmony to the Tree of Harmony, being extremely eager to take the Elements of Harmony in order to destroy them.
- Enhanced Strength: Plunderseeds possess incredible physical strength. They are capable of breaking through almost any terrestrial rock simply by allowing shoots to grow outward, and they are capable of holding Celestia and Luna, who are physically strong enough for normal Equestrians, captive, and successfully fending off Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle with incomprehensible speed and effortless ease.
- Enhanced Durability: Being organic representatives of Chaos Magic that contain a rather large amount of Discord's magic, Plunderseeds have exceptionally durable bodies even by the standards of creatures based on Equestrian magic. This is shown when the Apple Family had a hard time pulling Plunderseed shoots out of the ground, even when their shoots should have logically snapped, they calmly withstood blows from sharp and blunt objects and simply continued to grow without fear of being torn out by the roots.
- Limited Atmokinesis: This ability means that Plunderseeds can create clouds that are infected with their power and covered in spikes, turning them into a makeshift semi-sentient Plunderseeds air force that will attack with lightning anyone who tries to attack them.
- Limited Chlorokinesis: It is implied that the Plunderseeds are able to repurpose some forms of plant life to suit themselves, transforming some grass and flowering plants into their likeness. For example, they can create semi-sentient crab-like flowers that will aggressively attack any living creatures they see.
- Pollen of Сhaos: All Planderseeds have a unique ability that allows them to release a special biomagical pollen that causes unicorn magic (and possibly alicorns) to work chaotically and against the will of the owner. Moreover, this process is irreversible until the user themself tries to physically get rid of the pollen that spoils the work of their magic.
- Sleeping Gas: Using the physiology and abilities of plants, Plunderseeds have extremely powerful natural skills in using plant abilities. In particular, they can generate a sleeping gas from their crab-like flowers or pollinate any nearby area with it. In addition, the gas created by the flowers is extremely dangerous to those who inhale it, causing the victim to become dizzy and put them to sleep, preventing them from moving for a period of time.
Weaknesses
- Elements of Harmony and Friendship of Magic: Plunderseeds were shown to be very keen on getting rid of the Mane 6 and the Elements of Harmony, as they realized that they were their key weakness as the antithesis of Chaos Magic. Once the Mane 6 returned the Elements of Harmony to the Tree of Harmony, all of the Plunderseeds were erased by the power of Harmony, which was stronger than their Chaos Magic.
