Loroc

Loroc is the main antagonist of the WondLa trilogy, serving as the overarching antagonist of The Search for WondLa, the secondary antagonist of A Hero for WondLa, and the main antagonist of the final book, The Battle for WondLa, as well as the Apple TV+ animated series WondLa.

He is a conniving Arsian who plots to seize control of the planet Orbona and wipe out all humans.

Loroc is voiced by Navid Negahban in the WondLa series.

A Hero for WondLa

Loroc serves as the advisor to leader Cadmus Pryde and double agent to Orbona's leader, Queen Ojo. He plots to consume his siblings, Darius, Arius the soothsayer, and Zin, a museum curator, to absorb their abilities.

After consuming Darius, he approached Cadmus Pryde and manipulated him into starting a war on Orbona and launching a preemptive strike against Queen Ojo. In reality, his plan is to exterminate humans from Orbona.

In the book's climax, protagonist Eva Nine, after gaining powers from the forest, tries to arrive at the home of Arius to warn her of Loroc's plan, but it is too late. Loroc devours Arius in front of Eva. He seizes her, telling her he will consume Zin the following day, and revealing that he is using Cadmus for his own gain. Just as he's about to snap Eva's neck, Eva manages to free herself and summons a flock of turnfins that attack Loroc, buying her enough time to make her escape.

The Battle for WondLa

After escaping from the war on Orbona, Eva Nine reveals Loroc's true intentions to Queen Ojo with a hologram projection. But Loroc arrives with an imprisoned Zin and proclaims that he'll consume him so his weakness for the humans will be eradicated.

Queen Ojo sends her guards to deal with Loroc, but the wicked vizier captures her and threatens her life in front of her guards. Then, Loroc grabs a remote from the museum's taxidermist and tosses him across the hall. He grabs Zin and swallows him, absorbing his power before throwing Queen Ojo aside, consuming a Mirthian leader, and hurling Cerulean leader Antiquus to the floor, killing him. Eva tries to save her friend Rovender and fight Loroc, but the Dorcean Redimus takes her out of the hall for her safety.

Later, Eva summons the animals of Orbona to join her in her final battle with Loroc, who has grown to a monstrous size. Eva faces him in the banquet hall, and he summons his guards to destroy her. Eva summons a sand-sniper and birds to help her. Just as she's about to free Loroc's prisoners, the evil alien snatches her up in his tentacles and prepares to swallow her whole when a flock of treowes douse him in their glimmering dust. The birds alight on his tongue to get him to tell her the truth about his siblings' love. Enraged, Loroc tosses Eva aside and makes one last attempt to consume his siblings, twisting his body and ending his life in the process, ridding Orbona of his tyranny once and for all.

Appearance

Loroc is an enormous, leathery Arsian alien with many tentacles, four eyes, and a wide mouth with sharp teeth. As he grows bigger, he has extra eyes, more tentacles sprout, and his mouth gets bigger.

Personality

Loroc is a calculating, manipulative psychopath consumed by a lust for power. He also shows no remorse for his actions, as he's willing to kill anyone - even his siblings - to secure his power. Loroc also denies any opportunity to redeem himself, even when Eva tries to convince him to let go of his greed.

• Loroc is the third Tony DiTerlizzi villain to actually kill someone, the first two being Mulgarath and Besteel.
