~ (Jokerzard when he appears to Batsaur).

Jokerzard is the secondary antagonist of Jurassic League, DC Comics comic miniseries set in an alternate universe where, in a prehistoric scenario, many species of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals have evolved into a humanoid form and coexist with humans. It is an alternate version of the Joker reinterpreted as a humanoid Dilophosaurus.

History

In a period prior to the events of the comic, Jokerzard killed and devoured the parents of Batsaur, an anthropomorphic Allosaurus who, wearing a bat suit, began to fight crime in search of revenge. Having set out on his trail, Batsaur manages to find Jokerzard in a cave strewn with bones and remains of animals and humans devoured, and in the center of which there is a kind of tree in which hundreds of human beings are imprisoned, and which is none other than one of the plasma harvesters needed to feed the Dark Embyo. Here Batsaur engages in a brutal fight with the Jokerzard, being burned by his poisonous spit and managing to partially blind him by throwing a Batarang in his eye, and sees a human child crying over the corpses of his parents, which reminds him of the death of his parents and above all that the Jokerzard is responsible for their deaths. In a blind rage, he manages to defeat the evil Dilophosaurus by punching it to death and setting the plasma harvester on fire, only to realize that his enemy has disappeared.

Jokerzard is revealed to have been rescued by the light-speed-running Nodosaurus Reverse-Slash, who takes him to another cave where there is another plasma harvester tree, and heals him of all his wounds by making him drink some plasma. Here the two evil dinosaurs are reunited with their companion, the anthropomorphic Carnotaurus Atrocitaurus, who contemptuously orders the Jokerzard to bow in front of the tree in honor of the Dark Embryo, which the super-villains are trying to awaken, an order to which the Jokerzard obeys, laughing maliciously.

Later Jokerzard, together with Reverse-Slash and Atrocitaurus attack the Velociraptor capable of running at the speed of light Flashraptor and the Parasaurolophus endowed with cosmic powers Green Torch, and the fight is joined by the Barionyx king of the seas Aquanyx, who has already knocked out one of their ally, the prehistoric manta Blackmantasaurus. The fight (during which Jokerzard wounds Matilda, a dolphin friend of Aquanyx) ends with the escape of Blackmantasaurus and the death of Atrocitaurus at the hands of Green Torch, while Jokerzard and Reverse-Slash are knocked out by Flashraptor and Green Torch, who then take them with them to reach Aquanyx, who in the meantime he chased Blackmantasaurus in the cave where the Dark Embryo is kept, which in the meantime, now about to hatch, has devoured Blackmantasaurus and is fighting against Aquanyx. Here the Dark Embryo manages to devour Reverse-Slash and finally ends the incubation process, hatching and giving life to the monstrous anthropomorphic Ankylosaurus Darkyloseid, which immediately heads towards Trimiscyra (home of a population of female warrior triceratops including Princess Wonderdon) .

Furious for having seen his plans to become the receptacle of the Dark Embryo fail and for not being able to witness the hatching of the egg, Jokerzard, pursued by Batsaur, now determined to make him pay for the murder of his parents, therefore kidnaps the young human to whose parents he killed and with whom Batsaur made friends and, climbing a tree, he emits calls with which he summons a crowd of ferocious anthropomorphic dinosaurs, which he incites against Metraaaghpolis, a city inhabited by humans protected by Supersaur, a Brachiosaurus anthropomorphic alien sent to Earth by his parents after the destruction of his home world (it is implied that it was destroyed by the Dark Embryo during its travels across the universe).

The dinosaur army then engages in combat with the inhabitants of Metraaaghpolis led by Batsaur putting them in a corner. Here Jokerzard recognizes in Batsaur the little Allosaurus whose parents he killed and provokes him, meeting Batsaur's furious reaction and being hit on the head by his human child, his friend. Finally, defeated by a punch from Batsaur, Jokerzard falls into the gigantic paw of Darkyloseid, who devours him along with his entire army to draw strength from their energy.

Personality

Jokerzard is a sadistic, mad and cruel being who, unlike many carnivores, kills for pure entertainment even before feeding himself. Although he is part of the supervillain team Legion Of Doomsauria, he has ambitions beyond theirs, aiming to become the vehicle of Dark Embryo's power, and was enraged when he was unable to attend the hatching of his egg.

Appearance

Jokerzard is an anthropomorphic Dilophosaurus with a slender but muscular physique. It has streaked violet arms, legs and tail, an electric green torso and crest, long hair and a short beard of the same colour, while the hands, feet and head are whitish. Its eyes are yellow and its lips are ruby red, with long, pointed teeth protruding from its long snout.

Powers and Abilities

Jokerzard is a ferocious hand-to-hand combatant, capable of holding his own against Batsaur (although the Dilophosaurus was a smaller and lighter animal than the Allosaurus). In combat he uses his deadly teeth and claws and is capable of spitting a jet of poison capable of burning the opponent.

Trivia

  • According to the authors of the miniseries, Jokerzard is temperamentally inspired by the Joker of the Nolanverse. The detail of the responsibility of him in the killing of the parents of Batsaur seems to be inspired by the Joker of the Burtonverse, who had killed the parents of Bruce Wayne;
  • Another model of inspiration for Jokerzard is also Vertigo, the monstrous prehistoric snake from the beat'em up game Primale Rage (which was one of the sources of inspiration for Jurassic League);
  • The choice to represent the Joker of this continuity as an anthropomorphic Dilophosaurus is due to the representation of the collective imagination of the Dilophosaurus as an animal capable of spitting poison, an image inaugurated by Jurassic Park (which however has never found confirmation in reality, in no study of the animal by paleontologists). Jokerzard in fact, in addition to spitting venom, is also equipped with a leather collar around the neck and wing-like membranes under the arms, in reference to the leather collar with which the Dilophosaurus was equipped in the film. The venom is in fact a reference to the Joker's use of his famous Joker Venom.
  • Jokerzard is one of the versions of the Joker responsible for the death of Batman's parents along with the Joker of the Burtonverse, Arthur Fleck, the Dark Joker from the Elseworlds miniseries Batman/Dark Joker: The Wild and Emil Varner, antagonist of the Elseworlds miniseries Batman: Haunted Gotham.
