Ghashiun is a minor antagonist and an immoral neutral character of the American animated TV series Avatar: the Last Airbender, serving as the minor antagonist of the episodes The Library and Appa's Lost Days, and main antagonist in The Desert.
He was member of a sandbender tribe who resided within the Si Wong Desert. He was the adolescent son of Sha-Mo and his late wife Yulduz. While not truly evil or dangerous, Gashiun proved to be a highly immoral, arrogant, selfish and greedy thief, who enjoyed stealing things from wanderers through the desert and was even willing to kidnap animals in order to sell and trade them and get rich. His most infamous atrocity was kidnapping Appa, which was a great shock for the Team Avatar, and also Gashiun did this purely because of his absolute greed.
He was voiced by Paul McKinney.
Biography
When Gashiun was young, his mother died from skin cancer, which was a common disease for the people who lived in the desert under the sun. This event shocked Gashiun and his father and from this time, the young sandbender started an immoral crime lifestyle by stealing things and robbing people. His father heavily didn't approve this actions and they had bad and poor relationships between each other.
While Team Avatar were in the Great Library, which belonged to the spirit Wan Shi Tong, Gashiun and his gang kidnapped Appa, while Toph was holding the library from falling back into the sand. Gashiun then sold and traded Appa on the black market on Ba Sing Se. Later, when Team Avatar were attacked by buzzard wasps, the sand tribe came to their rescue and Sha-Mo accused the young team of stealing the abandoned sand-sailer. When Gashiun appeared, Toph recognized his voice, as Appa's kidnapper and Aang was wrathful and enraged at Gashiun and his men for kidnapping his old animal friend and companion. When Gashiun tried to explain himself, by telling Aang that he stole the bison while not knowing that Appa belonged to the avatar, Aang asked the sandbender where was Appa and Gashiun explained that Appa was already sold to Ba Sing Se for a long time ago. Aang was enraged and didn't listen to Gashiun's frantical and desperate excuses that he regretted this and Gashiun offered the team avatar to escort them out of the desert, but Aang got into the avatar state and destroyed the sandbenders's machines, causing Gashiun and others to flee in horror from the enraged avatar.
