The Blessed are a group of immortal superhumans who control the world from the shadows and the main antagonists of the 12 part Netflix anime series Cyborg 009: Call of Justice.
History
The Blessed originated as a loosely organized group of humans who developed varied superpowers, be they physical or psychic in nature. Through their natural physiological abilities coupled with physical immortality, they were able to rise to become the secret rulers of the world.
Eventually, not content to live among "inferior" beings, a faction of the Blessed, under the leadership of a man named "Emperor", began plotting to evolve the rest of humanity into overclocked subservient metahumans using a nanoactive retrovirus, killing 95% of the human race in the process. Journalist Lucy Davenport and her father uncovered the Blessed's plan, leading the Blessed to kill her father to keep it concealed. Lucy later went to inform the 00 Cyborgs the truth about the Blessed so they could stop it. The 00 Cyborgs were able to track down the base of operations the Blessed were using for the plan and destroy the satellite meant to deploy the nanomachines.
After the 00 Cyborgs thwarted the scheme, Emperor decided to execute another plan to wipe clean the memories and knowledge of all of humanity so he could reeducate them from scratch to worship him. However, this plan was foiled when Catalina, a rogue Blessed, linked Emperor and Cyborg 009's minds, so that when the cyborg went into acceleration mode, he brought the Emperor with him into an existential void.
