Austin Sommers is a major antagonist in Red Tide, the first part of American Horror Story: Double Feature. He is a writer who uses a designer drug called Muse, made from human blood, to fuel his creativity.

He was portrayed by Evan Peters, who also portrayed Tate Langdon in American Horror Story: Murder House, James Patrick March in American Horror Story: Hotel, Kai Anderson in American Horror Story: Cult, and Jeff Pfister in Apocalypse, as well as Jeffrey Dahmer in Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.

Biography

Early life

Sommers was a struggling playwright and erstwhile drag performer when he met Belle Noir, who introduced him to Muse, a pill made from human blood that vastly increased his creativity. Within a few years, he had won three Tony Awards for his plays, and was regarded as one of the greatest writers of his generation.

Taking Muse had a price, however. He developed an insatiable thirst for human blood, and could never stop taking the drug if he ever wanted to write again. To feed his bloodlust and keep his Muse supply steady, he and Belle provided the drug's creator, the Chemist, with fresh "subjects" for her to experiment on. Sommers and Belle bring her "Bloodsuckers", untalented people whom Muse turned into cannibalistic albino creatures.

American Horror Story: Double Feature

Sommers and Belle first meet Harry Gardner in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where he has moved to focus on writing a new screenplay. They befriend him at a local bar, and he confides in them that he has been having writer's block. The next day, Sommers invites Harry to his house and offers him a Muse pill, promising that he will never have writer's block again if he takes it. Harry reluctantly takes the pill and, sure enough, is soon writing the best material of his life.

When the bloodlust kicks in, however, Sommers and Belle tell him that he must help them kill someone to feed their addictions. Harry is horrified at first, but the need drives him to help them kill a local meth addict and drain his corpse of blood. Harry is disgusted with himself, and vows to never use the drug again, especially after his daughter Alma takes it and starts devouring local animals. Sommers laughs aside Harry's guilt, saying that untalented people have no reason to live, and are better used as sustenance for those with special gifts.

Harry's agent, Ursula Khan, tries to make a deal with the Chemist to supply Muse exclusively to her to sell to her clients. The Chemist refuses, however, and, after meeting with corrupt city councilman Holden Vaughn, orders Sommers and Belle to kill Ursula, Harry, and Alma in order to preserve their secret.

Sommers, Belle, and the Chemist draw Harry and Alma out to the Chemist's house by kidnapping Harry's newborn son, Eli. Sommers and Belle descend on them with knives, but at the last minute a horde of Bloodsuckers, fed an even stronger version of Muse by Ursula, storm into the house and devour them.
