Victon (Hangul: 빅톤, Japanese: ヴィックトン), stylized as VICTON (an acronym for "Voice to a New World"), is a South Korean boy group under IST Entertainment, previously referred to as Plan A Boys pre-debut and during the show Produce X 101 in which two members competed. The group is comprised of six members, which include: Han Seung Woo, Kang Seung Sik, Lim Se Jun, Do Han Se, Choi Byung Chan and Jung Su Bin. They made their official debut on November 9, 2016, with their first mini-album Voice To New World.
At debut, the group's original lineup was comprised of seven members, including the now former member Heo Chan. On September 22, 2022, IST Entertainment announced that Chan would be taking a break from all activities amid a DUI controversy. On October 11, it was announced that he had officially left VICTON following the same scandal.
History
Pre-debut
The following dates may be off by a day depending on different time zones, as these dates use Korean Standard Time (KST) to avoid confusion on significant dates.
In 2014, members Seungwoo, Seungsik, Chan and Byungchan joined A Cube Entertainment. They were among the company's first batch of male trainees. A year later, members Sejun and Hanse joined, followed by Subin.
2016: Debut and Voice To New World
On August 24, 2016, Plan A Entertainment released a teaser photo on their official Twitter showing a picnic scene, with the caption "'PLAN A' SECOND EPISODE 2016.09.01".[1] The caption revealed Plan A's second collaborative album with their artists, the first album 'PLAN A' FIRST EPISODE being a collaboration between solo artist Huh Gak and Apink's Jeong EunJi.[2] That same day, Plan A's YouTube channel released two teaser videos: "'Plan A Boys' Fusion Real [Me&7men] Teaser" showing the members' silhouettes, and "'Plan A Boys' Fusion Real [Me&7men] 1회 예고" which briefly introduced all the members, to promote the upcoming show of the Plan A Boys' group set to air on August 30.
On August 26, Plan A tweeted a second teaser photo, showing Huh Gak facing the camera and sitting with three unknown members who were facing away.[3] On August 29, they tweeted a face reveal with Huh Gak sitting alongside labelmates identified as Plan A Boys: Seungsik, Hanse, and Sejun.[4] These three members would provide vocals for the collaboration. A teaser trailer "허각, 플랜에이 보이즈 [#떨려] (#Begin again) M/V Teaser" for the upcoming single was released on the same day on Plan A's YouTube channel, showing Huh Gak with all seven members of Plan A Boys.
Plan A Boys appeared on August 30, on Mnet's reality show Me & 7 Men, which showed the group's preparations leading up to their debut. On August 31, before midnight, the music video for "#Begin again (#떨려)" aired on Plan A's YouTube channel. On September 1, the digital single was released on Naver VIBE under the title "#떨려".[5]
On November 1, the final episode of Me & 7 Men aired, revealing VICTON's teaser trailer at the end showing the group's debut date to be November 9, 2016, along with the group's name, and the title of their first mini-album: Voice To New World. Plan A Entertainment held a debut showcase on November 9, announcing Plan A Boys' name as VICTON, as an acronym for "Voice to a New World". VICTON debuted with their extended play mini-album, Voice To New World, with "I'm Fine" and "What Time Is It Now?" as dual title tracks.[6]

On December 28, 2021, it was confirmed that VICTON would be making a comeback in mid-January 2022, their first in exactly a year. Their third single album "Chronograph" was then released on January 17.
On May 1, it was announced that the group would be returning with a new album at the end of the month, and IST Entertainment confirmed the reports subsequently. On May 5, the group announced their seventh mini album Chaos, which was released on May 31 and was promoted between June and July 2022.
On September 22, 2022, IST Entertainment announced that Chan had been accused of drunk driving, in which he was caught doing so on September 20. The agency released a statement announcing his hiatus from individual and group activities until further notice. He then released a handwritten letter apologizing to the fans and the group would hold a concert with five members. On October 11, after careful discussions with the members of VICTON including Chan, it was decided that he would be leaving VICTON following his DUI controversy. The group would then be reoraganized with the remaining six members moving forward.
The group released their eighth mini album Choice on November 15, 2022 following Chan's depature and while Seungwoo was still enlisted at the time of its release. The album was promoted between November and December 2022.
2023: Contract renewals with IST Entertainment
On April 20, 2023, it was announced that half of the group, members Byungchan, Hanse and Subin would be leaving IST Entertainment following the expiration of their contracts and decided not to renew. The other half had their exclusive contract period with IST partially adjusted due to military enlistment, and thus, will remain artists under the agency for the time being.
Despite Byungchan, Hanse and Subin's departure from IST Entertainment after deciding not to renew their contracts, they still remain members of VICTON.
