Raft

Rafts are small boats with a low sailing speed, no storage and poor maneuverability. Their extremely low cost of construction makes them ideal "disposable" solutions to overcoming water obstacles while exploring, but they are not a good choice for long ocean voyages.

They travel 2.2-3.1 m/s with full sails, 1.7-2.2 m/s with half sails and 1.6 m/s when paddling.

Specs

  • 300 HP
  • 6m long x 4m wide x ~8m high (above the water)
  • 0 seats only pilot (currently any number of people can hold fast)
  • 0 storage slots (Weight currently doesn't seem to affect handling or speed)
  • Speed
    • Full sails:
      • 100% wind: 3.1 m/s
      • 50% wind: 2.5 m/s
    • Half sails:
      • 100% tailwind: 2.2 m/s
      • 50% tailwind: 1.7 m/s
    • Paddling: 1.6 m/s

Notes

  • Even in heavy waves the raft will not capsize, but it can become stuck on a rock or beached.
  • Ships cannot be deconstructed with a hammer, but their resources drop when they are destroyed and can be recovered if a player is standing or swimming in range to pick them up before they sink.
  • Enemies such as greydwarfs, and even boars, will attack and destroy beached rafts if they see them. If the player wishes for their raft to still be there when they return, leave it in a place where it is not easily discovered, such as the lee side of an island.
  • The ladder to climb out of the water and onto the raft is on the stern.
  • Rafts automatically anchor when the last person leaves them.
