Tohoku Itako (東北イタコ(とうほく いたこ)) is a Japanese UTAU and NEUTRINO made by SSS LLC., as well as a VOICEROID2 and CeVIO AI Song voicebank made in collaboration with AH-Software Co. Ltd.. She is capable of speaking and singing considered by the good amount of voicebanks released in four different vocal synths.

She is voiced by Ibuki Kido (木戸衣吹).

History

In 2011, the Tohoku region in Japan had been hit by a high-risk tsunami, resulting in the Tohoku region recovering for years; as another result of this tsunami, Itako's younger sister Tohoku Zunko existed. Zunko was released as a VOICEROID+ in September 2012, then, one year after Zunko's release in April Fools Day 2013, she was revealed to have two other sisters, named Tohoku Kiritan and Tohoku Itako.[1][2]

Itako and Kiritan were crowdfunded to have UTAU voicebanks in 2014, and both Itako and Kiritan successfully got funded to have UTAU voicebanks. Itako was released with one voicebank containing lots of content, along with a downloadable folder of Itako and Kiritan talking with voiced lines.

When 2017 came, Itako started another campaign to have a VOICEROID2 voicebank; this campaign went more than 2 times over the limits. Itako got funded for a VOICEROID2 voicebank, and became a song and talk voicebank.[3]

In September 2020, Zunko's Twitter announced that there was a crowdfunded campaign related to Itako, and the full information would be revealed on Itako's birthday; when it came, it was revealed that Zunko's team was planning to make Itako a NEUTRINO bank, fully making her a voicebank in 3 vocal synths. Itako's NEUTRINO nickname is "AI Itako".[4] She would eventually also receive a CeVIO AI Song voicebank, and she eventually got released in January 2022.[5]

Concept

Itako is a college graduate from Itako Technical School; she graduated at the top of her class and is 19 years old. Her birthday is June 24.

Much like her sister Zunko, she has a happy and bubbly personality, likes going outside, and dreams of making her younger sister Zunko a Japanese idol, and to promote her business. Her other dream is to fully return the spirit and power of the nine-tailed fox trapped inside her body. Itako also earned a few nicknames: Zunko calls her "Itako-nee-sama" while Kiritan calls her "Tako-nee-sama". Itako calls Zunko "Zun-chan" and calls Kiritan "Kiri-chan".

She also likes to do ritual-like hobbies of possessing the deceased. She tends to add a "nyaa" at the end of her sentences whenever she calls any spirits. Itako helps her sisters make zunda-mochi: her part is to develop the produce.

Itako also has a little cat ghost friend kept inside her body.

Etymology

Her first name, Itako, can be referred to as a deceased corpse that can be possessed by oneself and others, and is able to speak. Her last name, Tohoku, is inspired by the Tohoku region in Japan.

  • Upper clothing - White, kimono-styled dress, a dark pink tie wrapped around her stomach, flower patterns on the inside, there is also a red string tied around it, the knot forming five separate loops shaped like a flower, long and wide sleeves that reach down to her ankles.
  • Lower clothing - A double-layered dress that fades to blue, the second layer is coloured purple, fades back to white and it pops out from the first layer and reaches her lower leg, there are flower patterns on the inside.
  • Shoes - Grey slippers with white medium-length socks worn over it.

Itako's voice has a more cutesy and powerful tone compared to her NEUTRINO and VOICEROID voicebanks, her normal tone sounds like her usual voice, while her strong voicebank sounds more clear and mature, and her weak tone sounds softer and sweeter. Itako's voicebank could be high-quality and easy to tune depending on the user, and her voice is really unique. Some problems with her voicebank is that her consonants are pretty vague, so her voice might be hard to mix.[7]
