Monster Zoo

Monster Zoo (怪獣動物園, Kaijū Doōbutsuen) is the thirtieth episode of Ultraman Tiga.

Plot

Daigo and Rena take their first day off in a long time and a monster suddenly appears at the zoo which is where they are spending their day off. GUTS deploys immediately.

Trivia

• This episode explores the question of whether "monsters should also have "human rights." Due to waste carelessly dumped by humans, animals are polluted and transform into monsters, leading to an attack on a zoo. Thus, "How should we address the ‘human rights’ of monsters?" becomes a central issue.^[1]
• Masaki Harada noted that, although the theme is relatively traditional and carries a serious undertone, the episode maintains a warm and bright atmosphere, aiming to create a relaxed viewing experience. The story is set on a ranch, with scenes featuring herds of cattle to keep the overall tone from becoming too heavy.
  • As the intention was for King Molerat to eventually become docile, his aggressiveness was intentionally emphasized during his rampage to create a clear contrast in later scenes.
• Regarding the "Cell-Altering Ray," Shinichi Ooka explained that, to prevent the ray from appearing overly powerful, the production team introduced a logic: it only works on monsters without combat intentions. This setting was designed to make the concept more believable for the audience.
