Junkichi Oki

Junkichi Oki (大木 淳吉, Ōki Junkichi) is a Japanese director, known for directing many Ultraman Series episodes as a special effects director during the Showa era. His alias is Jun Oki (大木 淳, Ōki Jun).

Career

In 1964, Oki joined Tsuburaya Productions after working on documentaries at Sankei Films. He successively served as the assistant director of the main production team of Ultra Q, the assistant director of the special effects team of Ultraman. In the same year, he made his debut as the director of Kaiju Booska.

During this process, he often collaborates with Akio Jissoji, who is good at using color to create dreamlike images. Among them, he served as the director of most of Tsuburaya's special effects drama series in the 1970s. After a period of time, he switched to a producer and participated in the production of Dinosaur Expedition Born Free, Dinosaur Great War Izenborg, and Dinosaur Squadron Koseidon.

In the 1980s, he served as the visual supervisor of the film Teito Monogatari (1988) and the special effects director of Ultra Q The Movie: Legend of the Stars.

Death

On December 13, 1996, Oki died of lung cancer at the age of 56.
