History

Ultraman New Generation Stars

Season 1

Long ago, the technologically advanced inhabitants of Planet Ialim (惑星イアリム, Wakusei Iarimu) created Ediom, an artificial intelligence whose function was the gather data on various civilizations for research purposes. After spending millennia documenting thousands of races across the universe, Ediom consistently found that many of them collapsed over time due to a lack of connections to each other, jading his perception. Eventually, he happened upon the Ultras. Noticing their strong bonds between each other, he decided to test the Ultras to see if they could survive with their ties to the past being severed. Ediom appeared to the Land of Light and erased their entire archive of their pasts before disappearing.

After the Ultras had all worked together to successfully restore their memories through the use of the Dimensionizer, Ediom appeared before Ultraman Zero, detailing his motive and how the Dimensionizer's unexpected arrival was something he could not have accounted for. After hearing his story, Zero explained more to him about the power of the bonds between the Ultras and the humans of Earth, changing Ediom's perception of bonds for the better. Satisfied with the results of his test and his newfound appreciation for the power of bonds, Ediom thanked Zero before departing to continue his surveillance of more species in the universe. Season 2

Some time later, Ediom decided to create a new body for himself, basing it on a civilization he once recorded. While booting up, he was found by Ignis out in space, who took him on his travels. Ediom, who at this point was witholding his true identity, would later find himself on the Planet Earth that Ultraman Z protected and came upon Yuka Ohta who was working on improvements to STORAGE's Sevenger. Ignis would continue on his travels, leaving Ediom behind to showcase to Yuka recordings of various Ultras' adventures to provide her with inspiration for her Sevenger developments.

Eventually, Ediom came clean about his past actions and his interactions with the Ultras, regretting his previous course of action. Having seen what the power of bonds could truly do, he remained on Earth to continue to help Yuka with her project. Having learnt all she needed to from them, Yuka asked to have her memories of her, Ignis and Ediom's interactions erased so that she could develop Sevenger's upgrades on her own, while still subconciously retaining the lessons she had learnt from them. After bidding her goodbye and fulfilling her request, Ediom and Ignis continued their journey across the universe.

Season 3

Ultraman Z had been summoned by Ultraman Zero to the now-desolate Planet Ialim. Unbeknownst to Z, Zero had summoned his self-proclaimed deciple to the planet to test the Ultra with the help of Ediom in order to study the records of previous heroes' battles to have the New Generation Ultraman Cape accept him.

Trivia

  • As confirmed by series screenwriter Junichiro Ashiki, Ediom's name is the Japanese word Omoide (思い出, "Memory") written backwards.[1] Similarly, the name of the planet Ialim is Mirai (未来, "Future") spelled backwards.[2]
  • Ediom's background story is very similar to Kyuara (キュアラ), another artificial intelligence from Ultimate Force Zero ~Side Story~.
    • Both of them are AIs created to collect information by traveling through the universe long ago.
    • Both are interested in the concept of "Heart" or "Bond."
    • To find out their answers, both utilized seemingly villainous ways and eventually revealed their peaceful nature and intention to a member of Ultimate Force Zero.
    • Both of them showed their appreciation to their answerer before continuing their journey.
  • Ediom's new suit is a reused Mountain Gulliver II-V suit, which prior to the series had only ever appeared in stage shows, beginning with NEW GENERATION THE LIVE: Ultraman Decker STAGE 2. According to Ediom's Notes, he based it on the original II-V from said stage show, due to him feeling an understanding with the robot as a fellow artificial intelligence who was saved by Ultra,[3][4] although in season 2, episode 10 he simply referred to it as "a design that appealed to me from amongst those of civilizations I had recorded."
