GUYS finds a mysterious pillar on the moon, while Mirai awakens with two humans, trapped in Yapool's pocket dimension!
Plot
The Phoenix Nest crash-lands on the moon, while Mirai comes awake in Yapool's dimension, with Aya and the reporter. They find the city in ruins. Believing earth has been destroyed because of GUYS' incompetence, the reporter begins to beat up Mirai.
Aya gets him to back off, and he says he'll travel by himself. Then a voice is heard saying "Humans are such selfish creatures," and the human form of Yapool appears. He raises his hand a a blast knocks the reporter away.
Meanwhile, GUYS decides to use the gun speeder, which was not affected by the magnetic field put out by the stone pillar. A voice tells Marina they can do it.
Meanwhile, Yapool uses the force with his balloons to begin to strangle the reporter. Mirai tells him he loves humans, and Yapool gives the reporter a gun and tells him to shoot Mirai if he wants to live. Aya gets in the way, and the two argue over who should be shot first. The reporter shoots, but Mirai blocks with an energy shield. The gun runs out of energy and Yapool uses the force to blast the reporter away.
The reporter calls Mirai a freak, and Yapool tells Mirai all humans are really like that. He tells him to join him. Mirai refuses, and the two transform, with reporter-jerk witnessing. Mebius is no match for Yapool without GUYS, but continues fighting. Mebius is knocked to the ground and his eyes go out.
GUYS deploys to attack the pillar, but Lunaticks bursts from the ground. They believe it to be the pillar guardian and attack.
In a light-pillar, Mirai meets Seiji Hokuto. He tells him that even when he and Yuko Minami were apart, he could feel her heart and fought using her power. Mirai feel his energy replenished with the thoughts of his friends and rises, transforming into Mebius Burning Brave.
Marina manages to get Ace to tell her how to destroy the pillar. The suppression field is stopped and the Phoenix Nest rises into the air. Calling to Yuko, Seiji transforms and faces Lunatics. Ace destroys the monster as GUYS destroys the pillar.
Yapool is defeated. Grozam decides to go next, but learns that Deathrem already left.
Mirai, Aya, and the reporter return, and the latter says he will not keep silent about Mirai's identity. Ace tells Mirai not to lose his kindness. Aya then cheers up Mirai by kissing his cheek, causing him to blush and feel bashful.
This episode features a guest appearance by Ultraman Ace, marking the reunion of Seiji Hokuto and Yuko Minami after 34 years since the original series aired. Mitsuko Hoshi reprises her role as Yuko, last seen in Ultraman Taro episode 39, "The Father of Ultra and Son Big Mochi-Making Strategy." In fact, this reunion scene does not directly connect to the previous storyline. However, the appearance of Yuko had not been foreshadowed before the episode aired, making it one of the biggest surprises of the episode.[1]
Based on the special interview with Keiji Takamine, published in Dengeki Hobby (Toys) in May 2007, the following insights were shared about the filming of the episode:[2]
During the filming, the set was not prepared with TAC badges. Although there was a badge worn during the film Ultraman Mebius & the Ultra Brothers, Takamine recalled telling the staff, "It would be nice if we had a badge..." Just then, a fan visiting the shoot handed over their own TAC badge. As for the Ultra Rings, the prop team had prepared the same version, but Takamine decided to use the ring that the fan had brought.
Takamine reflected on Hokuto's feelings for Yuko, sharing that it was a request from director Naoki Ohara. There's a line in the script where Hokuto says, "Although Yuko returned to the Moon, she was always with me." Takamine decided to place his hand over his chest during this scene to express this emotion. He also asked to use this gesture in other lines, believing it was the best way to show that Yuko was always with Hokuto.
Takamine mentioned that this episode, as a sequel to Ultraman Ace, only partially featured the "combined transformation," but the script was designed in a way that fans could still accept it. For fans who had been following the series since that time, Yuko's departure would certainly have left a sense of regret. Therefore, through this story, even though there was no direct interaction like before, the atmosphere conveyed a feeling that "the two of them are still healthy and spiritually connected," which provided a satisfying conclusion.
The episode references a famous line from Ultraman Ace episode 52 "You Are the Ace of Tomorrow!": "Don't lose your kindness. Take care of the weak and help each other. And don't stop trying to be friendly with people from other countries. No matter how many times you're disappointed. Those are my "unchanging" wishes." Takamine shared that he had a personal wish to speak this line. He stated, "If I could say even one line, I would be truly grateful!" Thus, when participating in this episode, he made this request.
