The Blackmore (ブラックモア, Burakkumoa?) family is a Magus lineage in Britain.
Characteristics
Their original name's history is lost as of the modern day, the family took the name Blackmore from a powerful Dead Apostle that was connected to the family. They took the name as a sign of respect for the Dead Apostle despite the Dead Apostle having died around two thousand years prior.[1]
The family consists of soul carriers who practice the manipulation of Spirits, and they regard birds as sacred.[1][2]
They owned the land which eventually became known as Blackmore Cemetery, the family eventually becoming its gravekeepers. They have been temporarily entrusted with the remains of King Arthur as of the modern day.[1] The Blackmores have ties to the British government, and the government sometimes provides them with information because of the disagreements between Blackmore Cemetery and the Holy Church.[3]
For centuries the gravekeepers have chosen a child from the village to train and be their successor so that the line of gravekeepers continues. The current gravekeeper Bersac Blackmore chose Gray nine years before the start of the story.[4] The Blackmore Magic Crest has had no Magecraft added to it through the generations. Its only function is to allow the owner to manipulate Add, the Mystic Code passed down through Blackmore Cemetery. The Magic Crest's lack of Magecraft means there is virtually no rejection when it is implanted into someone outside the family. This is why Gray is able to have it despite not being from the Blackmore bloodline.[5] Gray did not inherit the Blackmore name.[6]
Members
- Bersac Blackmore - Last known member of the family, acting as the gravekeeper until Gray took over.[2]
Other uses
There is a Magus named Dan Blackmore in Fate/EXTRA who is also British and has close ties to the royal family, but no connection has been shown to the Blackmore family.
The Dead Apostle Gransurg Blackmore (Remake) is said to be connected to the family, however details are unknown.

The cemetery from Gray’s hometown.
The land protected by Bersac Blackmore.
Originally, the land was inhabited by a family of magi that manipulated spirits, and regarded birds as sacred. The name Blackmore is apparently drawn from a powerful Dead Apostle connected to this family. Though the Dead Apostle in question perished some two thousand years ago, the family took his name as a sign of respect for him. At this point, that family’s original name is no longer known.
At any rate, that family has now become one of gravekeepers, and though temporarily, they have been entrusted with the remains of King Arthur.

Blackmore’s gravekeeper.
Most of Gray’s combat ability was beaten into her by this man.
If wondering why his own combat abilities were so high, though meaning behind it has more or less been lost at this point, he was the last descendent of the Blackmore bloodline. The magecraft he used in his five minute exchange with Sister Ilumia was also a product of his family, who were a family of Soul Carriers.
In Gray’s hometown, (aside from Magdalena, who was only acting the part) he was perhaps the only person that didn’t think of her as some sort of divine child. Though she was named to succeed him as gravekeeper, to have her life ended because she became the vessel for some past hero was too sad for him.
Though Bersac, being poor with speech, never was able to say such a thing…his feelings were certainly passed on to Gray.
- ↑ Lord El-Melloi II Case Files Volume 7: case. Atlas Contract (Lower) - Chapter 2 Part 2
