Thomas and Ted is a magazine story.
Plot
Ted, the chief engineer, is retiring, which makes the engines sad. They remember the old times Ted has done for them, like him fixing Thomas' snowplough and using the crane to lift Percy back onto the rails. Thomas can often see Ted on his way, anywhere. One day, Thomas sees some unknown smoke, which turns out to be a river steamer boat, but suddenly, it runs aground. Thomas tells Sir Topham Hatt, who tells Ted and the boat owner and they both test the steamer. Ted finds that he has found his hobby again. Next day, Thomas passes the river with Ted on the steamer.
