The Sleepy Engine! is a magazine story.
Plot
Thomas is pulling trucks of hay for the hill farms. When he stops, he pressures his driver to unload the hay until he notices a prickly ball, which is a hedgehog. His guard explains that the hedgehog must have been crawling into the hay and is hibernating. So, they take it to the Main Station yard and Sir Topham Hatt tells the staff to put it in the hedgehog box in the engine shed until spring. The other engines are pleased to have a sleepy visitor to look after. The next day, Thomas is puffing out of the sheds when he notices steam leaking out of the pipes. He is sent to the Maintenance Shed to be repaired and his eyes soon get heavier and heavier. When the pipes are mended, his driver wakes Thomas up and he puffs into the coal yard, thinking engines should hibernate, too.
