The New Job is a magazine story.
Plot
It is very special day on Sodor as there is to be a party for a retiring signalman that evening. In the yard, Thomas collects a van full of old railway materials that are to be donated to the museum. As Thomas nears the station, he has to stop at a signal. The retiring signalman has a chat with Thomas' driver and states he is happy to now have more time for his hobbies but Thomas is still sad to see him leave.
Once at the station, the stationmaster has bad news. The museum has been closed and the curator has moved to the mainland. Thomas returns to the main station and informs The Fat Controller, who gets an idea and contacts the mayor.
At the signalman's retirement party, he is given both a gold watch and an offer to be the new museum curator. The signalman happily accepts and Thomas laughs at having to make the same delivery of railway materials again.
