Star Spotting! is a magazine story.
Plot
One afternoon, Thomas is busy shunting when Daisy rolls past. She proudly boasts she is taking important people to a town council meeting and how only someone as modern as her can do the job. Thomas thinks this is nonsense.
Soon, it grows dark and Daisy still has not returned. The Fat Controller instructs Thomas to take a group of passengers along his branch line who wish to study the stars away from the town. Thomas couples up to Annie and makes his way. One passenger carries a long tube. Thomas' driver explains that it is called a telescope and it can help see things from a distance. Thomas soon comes to a siding. His driver changes the points and then drives him into it. The passengers all talk eagerly and teach Thomas about the stars.
Soon, Thomas can see a bright light in the distance. The light is moving and seems to be getting closer. Thomas thinks it is a star but the man with the telescope peers into it and sees that it is a lamp from an approaching engine. The engine is revealed to be Daisy! The town council meeting took longer than she thought!
