Slippery

Slippery is a magazine story.

Plot

It is a chilly winter's morning on Sodor and the engines are just being to wake up. Henry is the first engine awake and he states the he feels like he has been getting up earlier every day, as it is still dark out. The driver laughs and explains how the days are getting shorter. Henry also laughs at how his crew's breath in the cold weather makes it look like they are weeshing steam through their mouths.

Henry then goes to collect a train of coal which will be used for heating in the cold weather. The trucks complain that it is too cold to go out but Henry tells them to come along. When they reach Gordon's Hill, Henry begins to slide downward and braking only makes it worse but Henry is soon able to stop at the bottom of the hill. The driver points out that the rails are icy and need clearing.

Salt is placed on the rails and Henry is able to climb the hill with ease, just as the sun begins to rise. James thinks Henry's situation was very funny but Henry rebukes him. Henry gets the last laugh, however, when James slides into an icy siding and damages the buffers.
