Rheneas Quarry is a slate quarry located in the hills north of Rheneas. It is run by the Skarloey Railway.
History
In 1951, there was discovered a broad vein of slate in the hills north of Rheneas. This slate is particularly pure and entirely free from metallic substances, thus it is excellent for use in electric switchboards. It was tried out by the British Aluminium Company at their hydro-electric works at Peel Godred, and has been widely specified since both on Sodor and overseas.[1]
Shunting at the quarry is handled by small, light battery-electric locomotives.[2] These are powered using electricity generated by the quarry company's own water-driven power plant.[3]

Trivia
- Rheneas Quarry is likely inspired by early unsuccessful attempts of the Talyllyn Railway to set up a slate quarry at Dolgoch.
- The use of battery-electric engines as shunters at the quarry is only mentioned in notes preserved at the Awdry Study.
