- "Clever Wag! You found your way home!"
"With a little help from his engine friends!" - ― Mark and Percy
Pet Passenger is a magazine story.
Plot
All the engines know Mark and his pet dog, Wag. They often take trains to different parts of Sodor to go walking in the countryside or by the coast. Today, Percy delivers them to Maron. Mark waves goodbye and Wag barks excitedly at Percy and his crew.
Wag wants to play and before long, he is chasing a rabbit across a field. Mark calls after his dog, but both Wag and the rabbit are nowhere to be seen. Mark continues to call after Wag, but the dog cannot hear him. Wag has followed the rabbit into a barn and the door slams shut behind him, leaving Wag trapped.
At last, Percy returns to Maron. Mark tells him that Wag has gone missing. Percy tries to whistle loudly for Wag, but it does no good. Sadly, Mark boards Percy's train alone. They travel back to the Main Station and Percy promises to tell all the engines to keep an eye out for the wayward canine. Mark waits at the Main Station while Percy goes to spread the word.
Meanwhile, Wag finds an open window in the barn and climbs out. He tries to find his owner, but then he hears a train approaching. It's BoCo waiting at a nearby signal. Wag runs over to BoCo and jumps into an open truck. Then, when BoCo passes Arthur, Wag hops on board Arthur's goods train and travels to the next station. At the station, Neville is about to leave so Wag runs across the platform and boards Neville instead. When Percy comes by, Arthur tells him that he saw Wag board Neville's train.
Soon, Percy is back at the Main Station and sharing the news that Wag has been seen on other trains. Percy wonders where the dog wants to go, but Mark is sure Wag is trying to find him. However, it is getting late and Mark must go home, so Percy promises to keep on looking and he gives Mark a lift home.
When they reach Mark's local station, Emily pulls up. Wag jumps out of her guard's van and races over to Mark. Wag has found his way home, with a little help from all of his engine friends.
