James and Terence! is a magazine from 1993.
Plot
One hot day, James is pulling passengers when he passes Terence in a field. James teases Terence for being slower than him. Terence rebukes James by saying he does important work but James just laughs.
Down the line, James notices a fire engine speeding down the lane and ringing its bell. James wonders what the commotion is. At the main station, The Fat Controller tells James that a fire had started in the heathlands and tasks James with bringing more people to help fight it.
James races as fast as he can to the fire. When he gets there, he sees the fire engine parked nearby and the firemen blasting the flames with a long hose. The workmen join the firemen but, suddenly, James' driver notices the wind is causing the flames to get closer to the tracks! James tries to back up but - as luck would have it - his brakes jam! Smoke is blown towards him and he begins to cough. Luckily, a fireman states Terence is coming to help.
Terence arrives with his plough and sets to work ploughing a narrow strip in the grass. Soon there is a strip of bare earth. With no grass to burn, the track is safe from the fire. With the fire out, James' brakes are soon repaired and he has to admit that slow tractors can also be very clever.
