Going Rusty! is a magazine story.
Plot
The Fat Controller has asked his Stationmaster to round up their old scrap metal and load them into trucks that Edward has been tasked with taking to the scrapyard. Edward finds the scrapyard to be somewhat sad and hopes he would never have to rust away there.
On his return journey, Edward meets James with the Express. James explains that Gordon is away for maintenance. Edward thinks it would be wonderful to pull the Express but James thinks Edward is too old and points out his paint is starting to get rusty spots. Edward is nervous about what The Fat Controller would say if he sees him in this state.
Edward works as hard as he can for the rest of the day. First he pulls passengers and then he fetches a big freight train from the harbour. The Fat Controller is very impressed with Edward's work and says he will send him somewhere. Before he can finish, Edward pleads not to be sent to the scrapyard. The Fat Controller laughs and tells Edward he is going to The Works for a new coat of paint. Once repainted, Edward feels splendid and James, after apologising for teasing him, recommends Edward to pull the next Express train.
