- ― Thomas
Flower Engine is a magazine story first published in 2008 and later republished in 2011.
Plot
One fine Spring morning, Thomas is working in the Smelter's Yard. Thomas hates it, especially because of the mischievous diesels, 'Arry and Bert.
The following day Thomas refuses to work there. However, he is being sent to the hill farms anyway. Whilst being coupled to his trucks, Thomas remembers the time he ploughed through snow to deliver supplies for the animals on the farm. Then, Rosie puffs past. She tells Thomas that there is a surprise waiting for him on the branch line.
When Thomas sets off, he finds there's a picture of him made from flowers. The farmers had planted the bulbs last year after Thomas' heroic actions in the snow.
