Willie's Master

Willie's Master is a farmer and boss of the farmhand, Willie.

Biography

After Willie caused an accident which caused Rex getting derailed by Willie's load of wool after it toppled over onto the track, his master gave him permission to clean up the mess.

• In the Television series version of Useful Railway, Willie's Master was never mentioned, and Willie is a farmer in the series.

Sam is a farmer who works near the Ffarquhar Branch Line.

Biography

Sam once had to deliver a cart of lime to Mr. Crowe's forty-acre field. When he remembered about the delivery, it was getting dark, so he decided to hurry and using his horse, he quickly got the cart moving. When he went over the level crossing, the cart was bumped and the front wheels were stuck in mud, with the back ones still on the railway line. As the horse could not get the cart to move, Sam went back to the farm for help. However, he did not know that Percy was travelling down the same line. This caused Percy to crash into the cart, breaking it into smithereens and sending lime everywhere.

Mr. Crowe

Mr. Crowe is the farmer of Crowe's Farm.

Biography

He once told Sam to take a cartload of lime to his forty-acre field. As it was getting dark, Sam decided to hurry and using his horse, he quickly got the cart moving. When he went over the level crossing, the cart was bumped and the front wheels were stuck in mud, with the back wheels still on the railway line. As the horse could not get the cart to move, Sam went back to the farm for help, however, he did not know that Percy was travelling down the same line. This caused Percy to crash into the cart, breaking it into smithereens and sending lime everywhere.

The Angry Farmer

The angry farmer is a farmer who works near the Ffarquhar Branch Line.

Biography

When Mavis was stuck on the level crossing at the Quarry Tramroad, this farmer, who had to wait at the level crossing with his tractor, decided to scold Mavis.

The Dairy and Poultry Farmer

The dairy and poultry farmer works at a farm that produces butter, eggs and milk near the Brendam Branch Line

Biography

One morning, this farmer had difficulty starting his lorry. When he finally got the lorry to start, it started having engine problems while he was driving it. The lorry soon broke down in front of the level crossing. When the farmer was about to telephone for help, Thomas, who had arrived, could not stop in time and crashed into the lorry, breaking it and causing the eggs, butter and milk to land on Thomas. The farmer was surprised to see his broken lorry and expressed his thoughts to Thomas.

Bill Shuvvel

Bill Shuvvel was a farmer who worked near the Mid Sodor Railway and owned a traction engine.

Biography

In the 1890s, Bill Shuvvel, with his traction engine, and Josh Herder, with his troupe of cows, would commonly come to an impasse on the Ulfstead Road bridge and create a traffic jam. Bill generally got the best of the confrontations, due to Josh's cows losing interest and searching for entertainment elsewhere and stray onto station premises, much to the anguish of Stationmaster Galahad Qualtrough. While Josh was rounding up his strays, Bill would take his chance and leave.^[1]

Josh Herder

Josh Herder was a cattleman who worked near the Mid Sodor Railway.

Biography

In the 1890s, Josh Herder, with his troupe of cows, and Bill Shuvvel, with his traction engine, would commonly come to an impasse on the Ulfstead Road bridge and create a traffic jam. Bill generally got the best of the confrontations, due to Josh's cows losing interest and searching for entertainment elsewhere and stray onto station premises, much to the anguish of Stationmaster Galahad Qualtrough. While Josh was rounding up his strays, Bill would take his chance and leave.^[2]

Other Farmers

Several other farmers have been seen around the Island of Sodor and the Mainland.

Biography

When Toby used to work on his old tramway on the Mainland, farmers formerly send their loads onboard his trucks, but now they send them by lorry when the buses and lorries started to take over Toby's work.

When Trevor used to work on the Mainland, his former owner sent him from farm to farm to help farmers with their corn, and timber.

A farmer and his men were trying to load Champion onto their cattle lorry, but he broke free, and escaped. After Daisy failed to move Champion back to the farmer, Toby succeeded in driving Champion down the line to the farmer and his men where Champion was reunited.

When Edward lost one of his front bogie wheels in a cabbage field, the cabbage farmer phoned the Fat Controller and told him about Edward's lost wheel in his cabbage field.
