Cold Freeze is a magazine story.
Plot
Winter has come quickly and everyone is taken aback by the cold weather. Percy is taking a passenger train down Edward's branch line. He pulls into a station that runs parallel to the roadway and sees Bertie standing there with passengers crowded around his driver.
Percy's driver learns that Bertie had not been filled with anti-freeze and his radiator might have been cracked. Percy feels sorry for Bertie and the passengers and suggests carrying them in his coaches. Soon Bertie's passengers climb onto Percy's train and Percy sets off. Percy boasts how the railway can be more reliable than the road but his driver warns him the railway can have its own share of problems.
Soon comes the time to fill Percy with water. When the fireman positions the hose over Percy's tank, nothing comes out. He soon learns that the cold weather has frozen it. The stationmaster informs them that they will have to fill up using buckets and the overflow tank, which will take a while. The passengers do not mind the delay as the coaches are nice and warm but Percy sadly admits that his driver was right about the railway's share of problems.
