Clockwork Engines! is a magazine story.
Plot
It has been a bad week for the engines. The level crossing is jammed and Diesel is derailed when the points get stuck. A spark ignites from Thomas' funnel and the delays mean angry passengers are kept waiting. Sir Topham Hatt tells the other engines that all engines would run like clockwork. Gordon wonders what 'clockwork' means, but Thomas doesn't mean the type of clocks. Next day, Thomas collects the passengers for the Big Harbour. Along the way, he sees Bertie broken down at the level crossing. It is a race against time to reach the Big Harbour. Thomas reaches it just in time as the ferry docks. Stephen and Bridget Hatt play with some clockwork trains, to Thomas’ confusion. He hurriedly returns to the Main Station and Sir Topham Hatt is pleased. Stephen and Bridget Hatt run their clockwork trains along the platform, which Thomas now actually means.
