A Shock for Percy is a magazine story.
Plot
One day, Percy is making a delivery of stone from the quarry to the harbour. It is heavy work, and Percy grows tired as he nears the airfield. Suddenly, a loud clang is heard, and Percy comes to a stop. His driver goes to inspect Percy and discovers that Percy has a broken connecting rod. Percy huffs by saying a stronger engine should have done the job.
Percy's driver goes to the airfield and asks Harold to help fetch a new rod. Harold sets off as quick as he can. During his journey, Harold is taken aback by a striped ball among the clouds, but he is able to get Percy's new rod in no time.
Next day, Percy is making another stone delivery when Harold asks him if he had seen the striped ball as well. Percy thinks Harold is being silly and that no such thing exists. On his return journey, however, Percy does see the mystery object and learns that it is simply a hot air balloon doing test flights before an airfield open day.
