A Peculiar Journey is a magazine story.
Plot
There had been talk of thieves in the main station yard after some goods had gone missing. The stationmaster is asked to keep a lookout. A night watchman also checks over the yard during the late hours.
The Fat Controller is proud that things are being watched over but he would also like to check things personally. He goes to check inside one of the trucks but as he is climbing the ladder, James bumps into the trucks and The Fat Controller loses his balance and falls into the truck. He tries to call out to James and his crew but the noise of James starting drowns him out.
The Fat Controller travels all the way to the harbour and the guard notices someone climbing down from the truck. He shouts at the man but is very surprised to learn it is The Fat Controller who explains the situation. He then asks James for a ride back to the main station, only this time he will be riding in the brake van instead of a truck.
