Wisdom, abbreviated as Wis, is a character attribute in Planescape: Torment.
Effects
Possibly the single most important stat in the game, wisdom gives The Nameless One more dialogue options, and gives any character a bonus to experience, making them level up much faster. It also helps The Nameless One regain memories from his past lives, and thus aids storytelling.
Experience Bonus
For each point of Wisdom above 12, a 2.5% bonus to experience is gained. This is at cumulative, whether or not it is rounded up or down. At 25 wisdom, 5% more bonus experience is gained over 24.

High Wisdom also gives a +1 Luck bonus at 15, 18, and 25
Permanent Gains
Aside from increasing Wisdom with character points acquired at level up, The Nameless One has some opportunities throughout the game to increase his wisdom permanently:
- +1 from O in the Smoldering Corpse Bar
- +1 from Sarossa in the Great Foundry of the Godsmen
- +1 from the 12th level Mage specialization
- +1 from Ravel in her Maze. The chain starts off at Mebbeth's House in Ragpicker's Square. TNO has three options to reply with, and must choose either the answer that most shows that the player has been paying attention to the story, "Because I may need it to solve the mystery of who I am", and get a poorer reward, or the unequivocally more advantageous, "Because I want power" (which also grants +1 Intelligence). This bonus is not immediately acquired; TNO must wait until the culmination of Mebbeth's question and TNO's answer in the Black-Barbed Maze
- +1 or +2 from Ravel in her Maze. (A direct result of the dialogue with her: a second bonus of +1, or if all eight 'Nice' answers were given, +2)
- +1 from the Practical Incarnation in the Fortress of Regrets
- +1 from the Good Incarnation in the Fortress of Regrets
- +2 from the Ancient Scroll
That makes the maximum permanent gain to wisdom possible +10, +9 without specializations, and +7 without the Ancient Scroll.
Equipment Bonuses
Some tattoos grant a bonus to wisdom while equipped:
- +1, Tattoo of the Spirit
- +1, Tattoo of Saving Grace (Max. 1)
- +2, Tattoo of the Soul (Max. 1)
- +2, Tattoo of the Redeemer (Max. 1)
Some accessories also grant a bonus to wisdom while equipped:
- +3, Bell's Shield
Some weapons too:
- Axe of the Jester. Blacksmith Shop in Curst. Special: Random bonus or penalty to Int and/or Wis, up to +2, when equipped
Equipment Penalties
Some items reduce wisdom:
- -1, Tattoo of the Skull
- -1, Tattoo of Annah
- -1, Tattoo of Ignus
- -1, Tattoo of Ravel's Kiss
- -1, Spider Bracelet
- -1, Fiendish Eye of Kalem'Darr
Temporary Buffs
Some items temporarily boost wisdom:
- Kasseg, Cerebral Parasite. Special, Temporary: +1 to Wisdom, +3 to Intelligence. Given by Fhjull Forked-Tongue in the Outlands. Can receive four in total, and the effects stack.[1]
And there are items that temporarily -lower- Wisdom, should that be necessary:
