Behavior and Culture

Tengus are an intelligent race and they can fully speak and understand the Human World language. Tengus originate from Mt. Tengu in Hex Food World, but one Tengu has been shown residing in the main village of Hex Food World.[1] Apparently it is pretty standard for Tengu to be barefoot, with the only footwear they may use being their one-toothed tengu geta clogs.[2]

Powers and Abilities

Judging from Brunch, Tengus appear to be a very strong race capable of naturally generating electricity within their bodies via special organs similar to an electric eel and these organs can generate electricity through either solar, wind, thermal, water or even kinetic methods, making Tengus a living power plant. Tengus can freely manipulate their body's electricity and use it for either physical enhancements such as speed, or even for offensive purposes.

Tengu Brunch has been shown to posses great skills as a chef and is considered one the Hex Food Beast Knights, the top three best warriors of the Hex Food World, showing that Tengus can hone their skills to great levels.

History

Origin

Like the rest of the races within Hex Food World, the Tengu are actually the descendants of ancient humans who were mutated by the Nitro many centuries ago after being injected with Gourmet Cells. These ancient humans would later establish a society in Area 8 and their descendants would become the many diverse races of Hex Food World.

Past

Brunch is apparently the only known Tengu to have visited the Human World and the most famous member of his race, and occasionally he, along with the other chefs of Hex Food World, would host a Hex Food Product Exhibition where humans could eat meals from Tengu Castle. During one visit, Brunch was a competitor in a Cooking Festival several years ago which he won with ease.

Cooking Festival Arc

During the 50th Cooking Fest, the infamous Brunch returned to the Human World to compete in it and the many human spectators were both frightened and in awe of his appearance. He was able to reach the finals of the Fest, but when the Gourmet Corp. invaded he aided in protecting the chefs of the Human World from being captured by them.

After the fall of the Meteor Spice, Tengu Brunch and the residents of Hex Food World shared many ingredients with the Human World to aid them during their food crisis.

AIR Arc

Tengu Brunch and Hex Food Beast Knights took part in the capture of AIR with the Four Heavenly Kings to grant the age old wish of Hex Food World's denizens to one day eat AIR in a restored Area 8.

Trivia

Tengu
  • The Tengu are based on the real-life mythical beings from Japanese folklore.
  • In Chapter 281, the staff of Tengu Castle appear to be bird-like humanoids, a possible reference to the Japanese legends about Tengus being able to turn into bird yokai, but whether these are actually Tengu remains to be seen.
