Summary
In the manga
IGO sends Komatsu to contact Toriko for a job - capture of the Galala Gator. Soon after, Toriko and Komatsu set sail to the Baron Bog, home of the Galala Gator. Before even setting foot on the island, Toriko notices unusual occurences. These strange events continue as they proceed through the forest, becoming increasingly more bizarre. Komatsu then comes to an explanation - it's because the Galala Gator is 300 years old. The older, the more powerful. Toriko's excitement steadily grows, knowing the possibility that it may be an add-on to his Full Course Menu.
Toriko and Komatsu continue to search the whole isle for the mysterious Galala Gator and come across the various fauna of the Island along the way. Along the way, Komatsu is bitten by a leech, which is later analyzed by Toriko and identified as a target set by Galala Gator for its prey. Toriko then reveals that he will transform into his final mode to fight Galala Gator. The title is dubbed as "Fork and knife", which are Toriko's primary weapons to fight the Galala Gator. Finally, after swiftly defeating Galala Gator, he and his client Komatsu begin eating their prey, and ultimately forget about the mission of bringing the meat back. In the end, all that was left was a leech.
In the anime
The series begins with a chef named Komatsu discovering a Gourmet Hunter named Toriko, who is fishing. Toriko catches a Pincer Fish, much to Komatsu's amazement, he stops an attack on the fish from a Five-Tailed Great Eagle. Learning that there is a reward for capturing a local Garara Gator, Toriko accompanies Komatsu on his journey to the Baron Bog, a swamp where the beast lives. While there, they encounter a Baron Tiger which Toriko scares off. While eating Baby Frogs at dinner, a Swamp Snake shows and dies right after, from an attack of the Garara Gator, an over sized alligator. Toriko defeats it with his Fork and Knife. He then tells Komatsu, while eating the Garara Gator, of his dream of preparing a full-course meal, where he gathers the best ingredients into one menu. Komatsu also tells him of his dream of becoming a world-renowned chef. Komatsu offers to come with Toriko, which he accepts.
