Clothing is a category of items that Miis can wear to customize their look. A Mii that has been newly created or is not wearing actual clothing items will wear a Default Outfit consisting of a simple shirt and pants (male) or dress and stockings (female), with the top being their favorite color. Regardless of age, gender, or personality, Miis can wear any type of clothing. Categories of clothing are Masculine, Feminine, Unisex, Formal Wear, and Costumes.

The player can change a Mii's clothes at any point (except during a cutscene or when they are asleep at their home) either by gifting new ones or by using the clothing icon to change to clothes they already own. Miis are able to change clothes (to anything they own) without the player's permission, which can happen either off-screen or when the player looks into their apartment and they are using the mirror level-up gift.

In the Australian version, prices are listed with a $ symbol like the American version, but the prices between the two versions are the same. Items with [SP] can only be obtained through StreetPass or SpotPass. Activating StreetPass and SpotPass is necessary to collect all clothing in Tomodachi Life because of this. There are 428 types and 3,341 colors in total.

New SpotPass clothing is no longer available as of May 16, 2016. The only exception is the Schoolgirl uniform, which was available until the closure of SpotPass on April 8, 2024. It is not possible to legitimately obtain all the other SpotPass items unless the player trades with friends who have them.

Masculine

Clothing intended for male Miis. There are 75 items in total.

Feminine

Clothing intended for female Miis. With 109 items in total, it has the most items in this category.

Unisex

As the name suggests, these are items that can be worn by either male or female Miis. There are 69 items in total and has the least items along with Formal Wear.

Formal Wear

These items are for Miis who want to dress in a professional style. There are 69 items in total and has the least items along with Unisex.

Costumes

These are costumes and special clothing not meant to be worn casually much. There are 87 items in total.

Reactions

Just like the food reactions, there are several different reactions a Mii might have to new clothing or hats. However, there are no super all-time favorite, favorite, worst, or worst ever.
