Ruby

Ruby is the owner of the saloon in the shantytown of Liberty.

She was a no-nonsense girl who wasn't keen on outsiders disrupting her little village and their inhabitants. She developed a crush on Slade but he forms a relationship with Ebony, causing jealousy. She later escapes on a boat with the Mall Rats when the Virus Mark II is released.

Ruby later discovers she is pregnant with Slade's child, and he breaks up with Ebony to be with her. Because of her pregnancy, Ruby and Slade choose to remain on the island with the Native Tribe when the Mall Rats decide to return to the City.

Personality

Ruby is independent, quick-witted, humorous, inventive, shrewd and resourceful. She has a whiplash turn of phrase that can cut any fool down to size. However if that doesn’t work she’s not afraid to back up an argument with her fist. Cross Ruby at your peril. She also has the tenacity of a terrier and a strong sense of “right”. She loves language and her cryptic lateral thinking mind has developed a love for crossword puzzles.

Although Ruby is certainly resourceful and capable – for all that confidence she still has a vulnerability and is sensitive to other people’s needs as well as to her own.

History

Series 5

We first see Ruby when Slade rides to her saloon when she was throwing a man out of her Saloon. She always carried a torch for Slade and apart from the odd tumble her love remained unrequited.

Ruby was tricked by both Ram and Slade into believing that Ram was working on a cure for Slade's brain disease when in fact he was creating a cyber-child to bring down Mega. Ruby rescued Lottie from being run out of town and took her under her wing.

Ruby and Ebony had a cat fight over Slade during S5, Ram intervened much to Ebony's disappointment. Ruby tried to get pregnant to Slade, had a failed pregnancy test without telling anyone the results. Ebony then pushed her underneath a truck hoping to kill the baby.

Ruby's test came back negative, when they were walking to the docks Ebony pushed Ruby into a truck. But Ruby was unharmed. She was never pregnant much to Ebony's guilt. Fortunately Ruby wasn't hurt and got away on the boat when the Virus Mark II is released into the city.

The Tribe: A New World

It's discovered that the negative pregnancy was wrong and that Ruby was actually pregnant. Ruby is worried concerning Slade's critical condition after the ship-wreck. Ruby drives into the ship wreck in hopes to retrieve anti-biotics to help Slade but passes out. May saves her much to Ruby's surprise. Slade eventually gets better and is excited that they are expecting.

The Tribe: A New Dawn

Expecting Slade’s baby, Ruby is forced to sit out of the ongoing events concerning the threat of the Collective. When the Mall Rats decide to head after the captured Trudy, Ruby remains behind at the Natives village alongside Slade. Lex’s only request is that they name the baby after him if it is a boy.

In the aftermath of the battle, their baby girl is born. Though not a boy, they try to honour Lex’s request – naming her, Alexis.
