Danni

Danni was the former co-leader of the Mall Rats. Bray found her when he entered a government building while looking for answers to the antidote.

Initially, Danni was seen as an outsider by the Mall Rats as she was pushy and secretive, but after a while of settling into the tribe she was able to build trust and seemed keen to build a new world. Her father was eventually revealed to have been responsible for accidentally releasing the virus that killed all the adults.

When The Chosen take over the City, Danni and the other tribe leaders were taken away and never seen again. It was heavily implied she was executed. However, there's a small possibility she might be alive as The Collective have images and data of her.

Personality

Passionate and full of purpose, Danni strives to make a better world. She is fiery and can be stubborn.

She is persistent and will never give up. But her determination to build a better future is driven by a secret from her past that she is hiding and hopes it will not be discovered.

History

Series 2

Danni S2 HD

Danni is first seen in a government building that Bray enters in search of the Virus Antidote. She had a crossbow and threatened to kill him, but Bray manages to talk her into joining the Mall Rats. Lex however, was distrustful of her.

She established the beginnings of a judicial system for the kids and drafted a Bill of Rights. It was discovered by Ellie that Danni's father was one of the scientists responsible for creating the virus. Danni had tried to keep this secret but Bray managed to find out about it. Not long after, thanks to Ellie's and Jack's research, the rest of the Mall Rats came to know of Danni's past. Despite blaming herself for her fathers part in the virus, the tribe accepted her as one of the Mall Rats and she takes a joint leadership role within the group.

Bray Danni S2

With the help of Bray, she bands together the Tribal leaders of the city to try and bring some order to the chaos around them. However as The Chosen close in, things get shaky. The Chosen capture Danni during a tribe leaders meeting and was taken prisoner. The Mall Rats had found this out, and they managed to get Danni back.

But Lex insisted on not allowing the chosen to escape this time, so Lex goes ahead in a buggy and Bray and the Mall Rats head to the beach and cut The Chosen off to try and stop them escaping but they were out numbered. There is a fight but with The Chosen win, with the Mall Rats rounded up as prisoners on the beach.

Trudy steps off a horse and as The Guardian shouts "Almighty Zoot hear me, it is done." Danni stands up and yells "NO!" she ran forward and was knocked out with a hit in the stomach and across her back by a Chosen guard. This is the last time we see Danni.

Series 3

Danni is taken away with the other tribe leaders. The Guardian tells Bray she and the tribe leaders have been "taken care of". It is heavily implied she was killed but there were many occasions where the Mall Rats weren't sure of her final fate, rendering her missing instead.

Bray later teaches Lex how to use one of her crossbows, which Lex accidentally shoots Tai San with after attempting to assassinate The Guardian.

The Tribe: A New Dawn

While in captivity, Tai San is shown images of Ryan, Patsy, Paul, KC, Danni and Alice. Possibly hinting that they are all captives of The Collective. Although this could simply just be past data The Collective had managed to acquire of the Mall Rats, not necessarily meaning that Danni is alive.

When Amber, Jack, Ellie and Ram were taken to Eagle Mountain and forced by Eloise to figure out the code to access the other levels, Ellie suggests typing "Pandorax" as the password but it gets an error sound. Ram remarks that Pandorax was simply a cover up, as he believes the virus was not an accident. This is because the adults had time to prepare by sealing some adults in Hibernation Chambers all over the world. Ram believes the virus was a deliberate move, but Amber, Jack and Ellie aren't sure. This possibly means Danni's father might not be responsible for the virus. [1]

The Tribe: (R)Evolution

When the Mall Rats are captured and sent to Eden, they reunite with Alice, Ryan and Tai San. The reminder of the missing Mall Rats like Danni are not in the hands of The Collective. So her fate is still unknown.

Trivia

Danni and Dr Young S2
  • Danni is often seen as a replacement for Amber, as both were Mall Rats leaders and developed a relationship with Bray. The character has been severely criticised for being an "Amber clone" as most fans feel she was not individualistic enough as her own character.
  • Some fans believe that if Amber wasn't written out in Series 2, she would have been given the same backstory as Danni where her father was involved in the creation of The Virus. Since Amber showed no hint of knowing about the virus in Series 1, it's likely the virus backstory was created for Danni to make her more different from Amber. But there has been no confirmation on this.
  • According to the newspaper seen in Series 2 Episode 23, Danni's father is named "Dr Young." Meaning Danni's last name is Young.
  • Although Danni is shown welding a crossbow, she is never actually seen using it anytime during the show. It is only after she disappeared that Lex uses her crossbow to try and assassinate The Guardian in Series 3.
  • Danni is seen wearing a blue-themed outfit in the Abe Messiah music video that is never seen in the show.
  • Ella Wilks revealed in an interview that Danni was written out of the show due to the decisions of the producers. [2]
  • Danni was voted by fans as 5th Best Heroine in a 2015 poll. [3]
  • Danni is seen as one of the characters in Paul's reality space in The Tribe: Reunion manga.
  • In a 2020 Podcast, a fan asked Raymond Thompson on Danni's status to which he replied: "I'd love to tell you what happened to Danni right now, but it might ruin the next book." [4] This very likely means Danni might return in a future novel.
