Hull was one of two male tributes from District 11 who participated in the 50th Hunger Games.[2]
Biography
50th Hunger Games
After arriving in the Capitol, he was taken to be showered. In the shower room, he kicked District 1's Panache Barker when he was taunting the other tributes. Before the start of the games, Hull joined the Newcomers alliance between District 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 tributes in an attempt to counter the Career pack.[1] Hull and his district partners are considered "a game changer by Haymitch.[3]
During training, Hull was observed training with a pitchfork and beheading a dummy.[1]
On the first day of the Games, Hull joined the rest of the Newcomers on the mountain. He had managed to obtain a pack at the Cornucopia containing a syrup antidote for poison which he shared with his allies when they got sick, as everything in the arena was poisonous.[4]
Death
After a volcanic explosion on the mountain, Hull continued to team up with Buck and Chicory. They were attacked by a porcupine muttation. Hull had half a dozen quills dangling from his swollen face while he tried to protect his allies, who were writhing on the ground. Though he fought it with a pitchfork, Hull's attacks did not deter the porcupine. Haymitch and Maysilee Donner arrived to help but Hull received more wounds when a porcupine drove a slew of quills into his thigh.[5]
Haymitch and Maysilee dispatched of the porcupine and tried to save Hull, the only one still alive, by pouring an antidote down his throat. Hull tried to swallow it but the antidote spilled back out and he died.[5]
During the Victory Tour, Haymitch faced the distraught, grieving family of Hull.[6]
Physical description
Hull was strong.[5]
Personality and traits
Hull could stand up for himself. He was also very selfless, as he continued to risk his life to try and save his allies when he could have run away, and he gave his life in the process.[5]
Etymology
"Hull" is another word for "husk", the outer covering of seeds or fruits.
