MOONRAKER is an Autobot weapons tester, though he was once a simple astronomer. Long years of experimental weapons exploding in his face seem to have rattled his processor a bit, as he takes far more pleasure in blowing up Decepticons than is strictly healthy. Not that one could tell at first glance: He seems quite reasonable in casual conversation, and he tests his weapons where there won't be (too many) innocent casualties, typically in geosynchronous orbit around Cybertron. In any case, he performs a valuable service for the Autobot military, proving the viability of many unconventional weapons... and more importantly, satisfying the curiosity of mad scientists like Wheeljack. It's a good thing Moonraker is as tough as he is, or he'd be space dust long before now.
History
Canonical/Pre-MUX/Theme History:
Moonraker started out as an Autobot astronomer, using his satellite altmode to study the depths of space from orbit around Cybertron. But when the war with the Decepticons broke out, he had little choice but to refit himself for combat, being one of the few Autobots capable of functioning autonomously in space. He became a weapons tester because of how much time he spent in the vacuum of space, a perfect environment for safe testing with little risk of innocent casualties. Over time, he became increasingly fascinated with the many powerful and exotic weapons he tested, hoarding them away whenever he could get away with it and developing his love of explosions and impressive displays of firepower. With the recent series of incidents involving the Cult of Galvatron, he was assigned to test the powerful new Satellite Cannon, intended to level the playing field against the likes of Megatron and Galvatron...and, perhaps, in preparation for a much bigger threat.
MUX History:
During Megatron's attempt to retake Polyhex in 2015, Moonraker tested one of his weapons by blowing up Megatron's transport, using his orbital cannon to cut the shuttle completely in half. Megatron was not amused.
