Amphitrite

Amphitrite

The Amphitrite was a luxury cruise ship controlled and maintained by the criminal organization Kometa in the Tekken spin-off game, Death by Degrees. The ship is the meeting place of the Kometa executives, and Nina Williams, the game's protagonist, must twice visit the ship during the course of the game, once at the start of the game, and again after leaving the Solitaria Penitentiary.

Description

The Amphitrite is owned by Lana Lei, one of the game's main antagonists. The ship holds many illegal fighting tournaments, and, as the events of the game begin, Nina enters the one currently being held, which she wins. In Alan Smithee's words, the ship is "laid out like a labyrinth". At the end of the game, the ship is programmed to self-destruct, presumably by Edgar Grant, who mentions to Nina that he is planning to do this to avoid publicity before presumably being killed by Lana. Nina manages to get off of the ship before it detonates.

Appearance

The eclectic interior designs for each floors vary throughout the game. The upper deck has modern Mediterranean style cabin rooms (including the one Nina was locked in) with marble bathrooms containing simple yet modern furniture. The Poolside has a Greek Art Deco style with a bar called “Jupiter” concealing a Honeycomb armory. The poolside’s prominent feature is a ringed arena designed for public executions. Other rooms such as the cargo rooms, the freezer, cafe kitchen, the boiler room, the storage room and the Bridge have simple yet industrial styling. The main lobby and its foyer leading to the poolside has a greek Art Deco and Art Nouveau blend of furniture, sculptures and an aquarium on the first floor. The fourth floor of the main hall has several Greek statues of Medusa with glowing red eyes on each sides connected to grand staircases leading to the third floor where Executive meeting room located. Those statues have invisible lasers that can trigger alarms and Gatling guns concealed inside headlamps if an intruder touched the lasers, only to be disabled by a fingerprint authorization sensor hidden inside a gold Art Deco panel. On that same floor, stands a Mediterranean Cafe called “Cafe Ocean Blue”.

The Executive meeting area also has Greek Statues stationed in the foyer that can also be disabled through fingerprint sensors. Upon entering is a Reception Hall with a Neoclassical style with black Marble floors, Baroque paintings on the walls of the grand staircase and a an all chromed Type-J Robot stationed in the center of the staircase. The windows are heavily shielded by red velvet curtains with gold accents embroidered on the velvet. On the top of the staircase, a fancy Chinese style tea stand is stationed near the edge. Green cushioned art deco style stools and chairs are stationed by a large brown wooden receptiom desk along with several Ming vases and porcelain stationed on the walls.

The meeting room and its foyer also carry the same theme, with the former having a neoclassical style painting of Romeo and Juliet hung on the wall, concealing a secret safe containing a medallion and a manual behind it.

The first floor leads to a Brutalist style fighting Arena where the illegal fighting tournaments are held inside the ship. The ring has a Chinese theme and has a red Type-J Robot stationed on the very center of the ring. The spectator booth also has a luxurious Chinese theme with red velvet carpets, ming vases, and dark colored furniture. The door behind the booth leads to Lana Lei’s apartment filled with Chinese Ming Vases on each side of the foyer. The apartment itself also has a strong Chinese style, with a private Neoclassical viewing lounge with a bookcase filled with books and a glass display of a ship. Another room connected to the viewing lounge is a private lounge with gold and brown walls in an Art Deco style with an aquarium that can be accessible via stairs hidden by a lever. Next to the lounge is the boudoir that has a large television monitor with brown leather couches, red and white velvet carpets, a large brown wooden console with drawers against a white wall with brown wooden accents and a white marble table. The bedroom has dark green walls, and a bright green velvet carpet with white details. The furniture are all Chinese influenced Art Deco styled consisting of a desk, a wide bookcase filled with books and desktop decor and a large four poster bed. The wardrobe has mustard yellow walls and several shelves and cupboards.

The Lower Deck, which was accessed through an Art Deco styled elevator is in contrast to the eclectic and luxurious style of the Upper Deck but a more industrial style like from the staff rooms, kitchen, freezer, and cargo rooms from the Upper Deck. The Cargo area has several oxygen tanks stationed and a large deep sea submarine is suspended on top of the floor. The Engine Room is an all silver and grey room containing a Camouflage style Type-J Robot stationed near the engine. The Captain’s Room carries a similar style as Lana Lei’s apartment on the upper deck. It’s bookcase conceals the Captain’s Room via Chessboard that requires three missing pieces obtained from the three Type-J Robots onboard the ship. The Captain’s Room has a dingy Art Deco style setup with several French influences with White detailed walls against Tungsten and Red lighting from the lamps. Unlike the luxurious bedroom from the Upper Deck, this room is darker reflecting Lana Lei’s childlike and mentally unstable personality consisting of a large red canopy bed with Bryce Adams’ corpse resting on the bed covered in roses, an aquarium containing two large jellyfishes inside, glass displays of rare bugs and snakes on top of the aquarium and various shelves and decorated stands full of French and Chinese Porcelain dolls, Teddy Bears, Toy Soldiers, and Broken Toys scattered in various parts of the room. On the side of the entryway is a large decorated paneling, a large mirror and a luxurious personal lift leading to the CIC Room. One of the shelves is a doll stand with a porcelain doll wearing a Chinese style mask holding a copy of a Manji Sword against a Blue and Gold Art Deco background. The entryway has fancy red drapes on top of the door until the lift. Next to the lift are more shelves of broken and decapitates doll parts scattered. The white walls have so many pictures and memorabilia hung on every wall of the room, some even standing on the bedside tables.

Like from Lukas’ laboratory, The CIC Room has large monitors stationed on the top of the room and a main console used to control Salacia against a flight of stairs.

One of the other rooms of the Lower Deck is a morgue that is known for turning dead staff members, soldiers and executives into Cyborgs, all under the orders of Lana Lei. In that room lies the four executives that were killed by Enrique Ortega during the meeting regarding Salacia. The next room after the morgue is a large room filled with cases containing Cyborgs. The Launch room contains several tanks and a launch pod leading to the massive hatch where Nina fights Anna.

Weaponry

Apart from soldiers, cyborgs, tanks and firearms and melee weapons inside the ship, the Amphitrite conceals CIW Gatling guns inside the life boats deployed by emergency latches which fired rounds on Enrique’s chopper driven by Alan and Nina.

Trivia

  • The ship's name is a reference to Amphitrite, Poseidon's consort in Greek mythology.
  • The ship is also a hybrid between a Cruise Ship and a Military Warcraft because of the CIWS concealed inside the lifeboats and the tanks hidden inside the hatch.
