The Vicinity was a virtual reality which Chris Cwej lived in during his time as a disembodied consciousness bonded with V-Time. While the Vicinity in many ways was the container of Cwej's consciousness, she also possessed a female persona named Vicky (PROSE: The Aftermath, Rebel Rebel)
Physically, the Vicinity was a small glowing glass-like cube (PROSE: The Aftermath) containing a crystalline masterwork of cognitive engineering sliced from the Superiors' Matrix. (PROSE: The Ursine Brood) This cube had been smelted on a volcano planet from a piece of the lagh slab Cwej's consciousness had been transferred into during the V-Time Experiment, with the other pieces of this slab being in the microchips which Cwej-V used to inhabit Cwejen; on a higher dimension, all of these pieces still existed as a single undivided object, with the cube acting as an anchor. The Vicinity's interior resembled a timeless grey void in which Cwej could summon any object he wanted. (PROSE: A Bright White Crack)
As Vicky, the Vicinity once created a physical humanoid body using similar principles to humanoid timeships. She had long red hair and a body Cwej was attracted to. (PROSE: The Aftermath) At the very culmination of Cwej's bonding with V-Time, he had briefly seen his own shadow as a red-haired woman. (PROSE: The V Cwejes)
After discovering that Cwej had been harbouring the interdimensional criminals Larles and Kwol, the Superiors sentenced him to execution, which was performed by shattering the glass cube of the Vicinity. However, Vicky used the last of her strength to project his consciousness to another Cwej's body. Returning to the courtroom, he retrieved one of the glass shards to keep as a good luck charm. Later, Cwej stole a defective prototype of the Vicinity, and used his knowledge of V-Time to complete it. (PROSE: The Aftermath) He spent fifty years inside the restored Vicinity while the Uprising of the Cwejen raged outside. (PROSE: Rebel Rebel)
After regenerating into a woman, the Healer tossed Cwej a glass shard, which he realised was identical to the one he still carried. (PROSE: Rebel Rebel)
