Behind the scenes
- Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, Governor of the systems of the Outer Rim, was played by Peter Cushing, who also played Dr. Who in Dr. Who and the Daleks and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D., two theatrical adaptations of The Daleks and The Dalek Invasion of Earth, respectively. The granddaughter in question is Susan.
- In the film Rogue One, Tarkin was voiced by Guy Henry with a CGI recreation of Cushing's face superimposed onto his. This is alluded to in the novelisation of The Day of the Doctor [+]Steven Moffat, adapted from The Day of the Doctor (Steven Moffat), Target novelisations (Target Books, 2018)., in which Kate Stewart observes that Cushing, who Clara Oswald knows as "the guy from Star Wars", was enabled to appear in movies made after his death thanks to the Doctor, indicating that, in the Doctor's universe, Cushing himself reprised the role of Tarkin in Rogue One.
