Wheeler was a prolific bit part actor, appearing in various comedy series such as Hancock’s Half Hour (1959), Citizen James (1960), Sykes and a... (1961, 1964), Meet the Wife (1965), Frankie Howerd (1966), Till Death Us Do Part (1966), The Ronnie Barker Playhouse (1968), The Gnomes of Dulwich (1969), Harry Worth (1968, 1970), The Goodies (1970) and the first episode of Fawlty Towers (1975). He also had roles in The Avengers (1968) and Department S (1970).
