Kal Chenka was Liv and Tula Chenka's father.
Biography
Life
In Liv's youth, Kal liked to take her hiking through the mountains of Kaldor (AUDIO: The Sonomancer) and would play certain music whilst doing so, saying that it centred him with nature. (AUDIO: The Robots of Life) He was a hero to both of his daughters. He loved robots but disliked what they had done to human society, which Tula misinterpreted as a hatred of robots and her career. As a result, she did not call or visit him after leaving. This greatly upset Kal. (AUDIO: Escape from Kaldor)
Kal suffered from a chronic illness and visited a medical technician about symptoms he was experiencing. The med-tech dismissed his concerns and and misdiagnosed his patient, believing it was simply a symptom of Chenka's chronic condition. In reality, the symptoms reported were from a more serious illness, and he died shortly after. (AUDIO: Absent Friends)
Legacy
Liv deeply regretted that she was away from Kaldor for work at the time and was unable to correctly diagnose her father herself or encourage him to seek a second opinion. (AUDIO: Absent Friends) Tula was also away when Kal died, doing business for the Kaldor City Company. She paid for the funeral but did not attend, causing Liv to cut contact with her. (AUDIO: Escape from Kaldor) She also bought an interactive gravestone which could display memories and play music. (AUDIO: The Robots of Life)
After helping Lila escape Earth following the death of her father, Liv felt compelled to make a recording in which she recalled the adventure to her father. (AUDIO: The World Beyond the Trees)
When Liv and the Eighth Doctor investigated a series of nuisance calls made to the villagers of Calcot, England by deceased loved ones in 1998, she received a call from him. Kal Chenka's call asking if Liv would be visiting for her mother's birthday reached his daughter in 1998 thanks to temporal distortion affecting the entire village. Although tempted to warn her father of what would happen in his future and save his life, Liv heeded the Doctor's warnings about the potential repercussions to the Web of Time and did not. Instead, she took the opportunity granted by the temporal distortion to say goodbye to her father, and tell him that she loved him. (AUDIO: Absent Friends)
When Liv helped Tony Clare through his grief surrounding Ron Winters, she implicitly mentioned her father as being alive in her memories. (AUDIO: Best Year Ever)
Appearance
Kal wore glasses, although Liv was never sure that he actually needed them. (AUDIO: The World Beyond the Trees)
Personality
Kal enjoyed ice soda coffees, usually mixing his own. (AUDIO: Escape from Kaldor)
