Behind the scenes

The Great British Bake Off, as it is fully known, originally aired on BBC TV channels from 2010-2016, before moving to Channel 4 in 2017.

Connections

The show was presented during its BBC run by Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins, and Sandi Toksvig. Toksvig was the only one of these presenters to remain when the show moved to Channel 4. She later stepped down in 2020, with Matt Lucas taking her place.

Paul Hollywood is a judge on both runs of the show. He was joined in the BBC iteration by Mary Berry.

Various charity versions of the show, in which celebrities serve as contestants, have taken place.

For The Great Sport Relief Bake Off, Samantha Bond, Emma Freud, and Doon Mackichan were contestants on the 2014 series, and Jennifer Saunders was a guest host on the 2016 series.

For The Great Comic Relief Bake Off, Ingrid Oliver, Warwick Davis, Kirsty Wark, Bob Mortimer, and Claudia Winkleman were contestants on the 2013 series, and Joanna Lumley, Jennifer Saunders (again), Jonathan Ross, David Mitchell, Michael Sheen, Victoria Wood, and Kayvan Novak were contestants on the 2015 series.
