Trivia

  • Her gameplay revolves around damaging herself and doling out larger damage when she reaches low health. This is possibly a reference to one theory of how the piece got its title. Therese Malfatti ("Elise" is a mistranscription) was a student of Beethoven's who he had a love interest in and proposed to, but she turned him down. It is said that he composed the second, stormy half of this piece in a rage, making it harder than she would be able to play. Elise becomes more powerful in game after sustaining similar self-inflicted injury.
