The urn is usually a cylindrical container (with a few exceptions) where contestants place their votes anonymously for who they would like to vote out.
History
The urn has been used in every season at Tribal Council, and at Exile Island, many urns have been used to hold the clues and twists.
After the votes have been cast, host Jeff Probst goes and tallies the votes, where he arranges the votes in a specific order, to create more excitement and suspense, then returning to the main Tribal Council area with the urn. One by one, he pulls out the votes and reads them to reveal the eliminated contestant.

Trivia
- In Ghost Island, the urns from The Australian Outback, Cagayan, and Game Changers were placed on Ghost Island following the Final Immunity Challenge. The challenge winner, Domenick Abbate, was given the choice between which urn the jury would cast their votes Final Tribal Council, symbolizing an opportunity to reverse the "curse" of the mistakes of Colby Donaldson, Woo Hwang, and Brad Culpepper respectively. Domenick chose the Cagayan urn. He failed to "reverse the curse", finishing in second place.
