Jowston Hill (ジョウストンの丘; Jousuton no Oka) is a location in Suikoden II.
History
Jowston Hill is a hill on the outskirts of Muse City. The name Jowston Hill originates from the heroic actions of General Jowston, a renowned military commander and esteemed mayor, who established a defensive position on this hill and successfully repelled the Highland Kingdom's army for two months. After this battle, Jowston recognized the necessity of a stronger defensive alliance against the kingdom's forces. He called upon the neighboring cities to form an alliance, marking the beginning of the City-States of Jowston.
The alliance treaty was signed in SY 314 in an assembly hall hastily constructed beside the great tree on Jowston Hill. Leaders of Muse, South Window, Two River, and the Matilda Knights met to sign the treaty. In honor of this event, the newly formed alliance was named the "City-States of Jowston." In reality, the name "City-States of Jowston" was derived from Mayor Jowston himself, who was celebrated as a hero. However, the Matilda Knights opposed glorying Jowston as a hero, and it was officially attributed to the hill's name instead.
After the formation of the league, it was used as the site of important meetings and ceremonies for the alliance, such as the Hilltop Conferences.
It was the site of the Genkaku-Han Cunningham duel for the ownership of Kyaro, Anabelle's conference with the rest of the city-states to discuss Highland's motives before the Dunan Unification War, and Jowy Blight's failed trap to get Riou to surrender and end the war.
