Fifty-One

Fifty-One is a minigame in Suikoden IV.

Description

Playing 51 requires two players and a deck of special cards. The cards have the illustration of all five elemental Runes, as well as numbers ranging from 1 to 5. It can be played in Suikoden IV by talking to Noah in the antechamber of the palace of Obel and later in the Saloon of the Dauntless.

How to play

Before playing, five cards are placed face down on the table, each player draws a card and whoever draws the higher card goes first.

The cards are then shuffled and dealt, each player gets a hand of five cards. Each time a card is put onto the table, the player must draw a new card to keep his hand at five. Both players take turns putting a card out onto the table. The numbers on the cards add up. When the total of all the cards reaches 51, the game ends. Whoever has more points in the end wins. Normally, each player get as many points as the number on the cards put down. However, if a card is put down and the sum happens to be a multiple of 10, the lucky player will get 10 bonus points. For instance, if the table has 7 and you put down a 3, you'll get 3 points plus 10 bonus points for 13 points total. If the last card put down brings the pile to equal 51 exactly, the lucky player will get 20 additional bonus points. If the pile goes over 51, the total points of the player who discarded last will be reduced by 10 times the amount over 51. If a player has cards of the same Rune, they can be played in a row, which is called a combo. If you get a bonus during a combo, you'll get an extra bonus of 10 times the amount of the combo.

There are three levels of difficulty and you can choose to play for 500, 2,000, respectively 5,000 potch. For a victory, you'll get twice your initial wager, as well as an item. The item obtained depends of the initial wager and the difference of score (close, middle, high) between you and Noah.
