Koren

Captain Koren is the commanding officer of the flagship of the Klingon Defense Force, the I.K.S. Bortasqu'. She is the daughter of Grilka of the House of Grilka, half-sister to K'Dhan, as well as step sister to Alexander Rozhenko and step daughter of Worf.

Koren is said to be a talented captain who is capable of making the most out of limited resources.

History

Koren was born during the Dominion War to Grilka and J'Nek, a warrior from Grilka's ship who later died in the war. She grew up during a low point in House Grilka's fortunes, but began learning of battle and honor from her adoptive father as well as her mother after Grilka married Worf of the House of Martok. Consequently, Koren joined the Klingon military in order to honor her House and the warriors who died in its service.

Missions involved

• “Blood of the Empire”: Koren aids the player in the defense of Qo'noS during the Fek'Ihri attack.
• Romulan Republic-space system patrols (KDF): Koren occasionally leads the Bortasqu' into battle to aid KDF and KDF-aligned Republic players in battle in various systems in Romulan Republic space.
• “Sphere of Influence”: Koren, along with Worf, are part of a Klingon delegation sent to New Romulus to witness the activation of a recently-restored Iconian gateway.

  

• “A Step Between Stars”: The Bortasqu' under Captain Koren assists Federation and Romulan Republic players in the Jenolan Dyson Sphere against the Undine. After the immediate threat is over, Koren claims the Jenolan Sphere for the Klingon Empire, provoking a verbal confrontation between the three powers.
• “Surface Tension”: Koren is part of a KDF delegation attending a conference regarding the renewed Undine threat. She then commands the Bortasqu' in repelling a massive Undine invasion of the Sol and Qo'noS systems.
• “Alliances”: Koren is present for a meeting held onboard the U.S.S. Voyager to discuss the formation of a coalition of Delta Quadrant species to counter the threat of the Vaadwaur.
• “Midnight”: Koren attends the Iconian Resistance briefing aboard the Kyana Research Station in advance of the last battle of the Iconian War. She vows that the Bortasqu' will fight to the last to defend Earth, admitting that Qo'noS cannot survive if the Federation falls to the Iconians.
• “The Temporal Front”: Koren is present at the Alliance Summit on New Romulus.
• “Scylla and Charybdis”: Koren and the Bortasqu' join Klingon players in the defense of Bajor.
• “Ruins of Doom”: Koren aids the player against J'Ula's forces in the Imaga System.
• “The Centre Cannot Hold”: Korren assists the player in repelling House Mo'Kai and Klingon Rebel forces under J'Ula in the Qu'Vat System.
• “The Khitomer Discord”: After J'mpok dishonorably accuses the player of betraying the Alliance, Koren will side with Klingon-aligned player characters against the others, where as she will side with J'mpok against Federation-aligned characters. Following the ensuing battle, Koren is impressed by their honorable actions of Klingon-aligned players and informs that J'mpok would soon declare everyone an enemy of the Empire, advising them to leave Khitomer System, lie low and wait for her signal when it is safe to return.

  

• “A Day Long Remembered”: Two weeks following the fall of J'mpok, Koren is present at the celebration event in the Great Hall celebrating with Worf and Martok.

Formerly involved

• “Day of Honor”: In 2409, KDF players visit the bridge of the Bortasqu' at Ganalda Station and meet with Koren and the rest of her crew.

Other involvement

• In Tales of the War #19, Koren commands the Bortasqu' in combat against Herald forces, informing Doctor Harza-Kull of wounded being sent his way.

Notes

• As her mother, Grilka, married Worf of the House of Martok, neither Koren's House-affiliation nor the actual status of the House of Grilka are known.
• Koren's appearance in "Sphere of Influence" and all successive missions was changed from how she was first seen in 2013's "Day of Honor". She previously had an appearance more closely resembling a generic female Swordmaster NPC.
• Koren's hair was slightly improved with Season Twenty: House Divided as part of the Year of Klingon updates. Her voiceovers have also been changed from Secunda Wood to Mara Junot^[1]. With the remaster of the Fek'Ihri Return arc in Season Twenty-two: House Reborn, Klingon players canonically meet her (before the Solanae Dyson Sphere arc) during this story arc.
